Notes on accommodation
Heating is from electric wall heaters - the flat heats up quickly. Hot water from a tank, enough for 1 bath or plenty of showers.
Ideal for children as they can get to the beach without crossing roads - need to be careful with the tides as they come in fast - but that what makes the place so special as the water, sky and light are constantly changing.

A garage is available for use by tenants although it is easier to park in the car park of out on the street - accessible via 2 security doors.

Coast/Beach
Apartment is right on the beach. Le Crotoy has wide sandy beaches, a fishing port and marina. There are mile upon mile of huge sandy beaches to the north of Le Crotoy, backed by enormous sand dunes. To the south there is the fishing village of St Valery and the high white cliffs from Ault to Le Treport. Sand yacht and bicycle hire, tennis and riding are also available nearby. Guided walks in the bay at low tide, seal watching. Bird sanctuary at nearby La Marquenterre.

Golf
Golf courses at Le Touquet and Nampont St Martin.

Skiing
Yes you can go skiing! Loisinord at Noeux-les-mines just south of Calais is the first year-round ski resort of its kind in France with two slopes 300ms high for downhill skiing. One is a training slope reserved for beginners. For more photos and details of the slope and links to tell you more about it please ask for addresses. Yorkshire firm Briton Engineering was drafted in to provide 118,000sqft of Snowflex, a revolutionary carpet-like surface, and the Loisinord Stadium of Skiing opened amid a blaze of fireworks - according to its makers, the biggest artificial slope in Europe, if not the world.

Travel
It takes us just over an hour to drive the 100km from Calais to Le Crotoy - all very easy on the great A16 motorway (why can't English roads be like this?). In season you can also get a speed ferry to Boulogne which is even nearer. Picardie boasts an excellent rail network with frequent connections to Calais, Paris and other nearby transport hubs. Paris is an easy day trip from here. The nearest station to Le Crot is Rue (8km) - taxis are easy from the station.

Distances
Calais 100km, Abbeville 22km, Le Touquet 55km, Paris 200km Thiepval (WW1 cemetary) 115km. Picardie is often described as the place where the 'real France' begins. Close enough for weekend breaks and with dozens of charming towns and villages, several impressive tourist sites and a wide variety of landscapes, Picardie is an enticing proposition for those who want to experience the French way of life without straying too far from home.

Further details
There is so much to do in and around Le Crotoy, we have probably only scratched the surface. The bay itself is great for walks, there's a little train that runs around it in season - big winner with little kids
Adrenalin junkies are well catered for with sand yachting, wind-surfing, parasailing etc, anything water sportsy is covered. The massive Parc ornithologique de Marquenterre - a real draw for nature lovers Arbre et aventure is huge fun - climbing about in the tops of pine trees - you're always attached but it can feel scary!

Inland there are real castles to match the replicas built by children on the beaches. Tucked away in some of the largest expanses of oak and beech forests in Europe, there is much cultural beauty to take in alongside the obvious appeal to hikers of such raw and relatively untouched countryside. Stray further into Picardie's most southerly extremes and you'll come across the outskirts of the famous vineyards of Champagne. Please contact owner should you require weblink addresses.

For a livelier atmosphere most visitors head for Amiens, the capital of Picardie. A short 90min drive from Calais; Amiens is a bustling university town that was once home to Jules Verne. Its awe-inspiring Gothic Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the jewel in the crown of Picardie's many historic towns with world-class cathedrals or châteaux. The Somme battlefield war graves and cemeteries are about 100km away.
