Skiing
Sainte Foy has been referred to as the 'jewel in the crown' of the Alps. This small, exclusive resort was named as the number one place to ski by the Sunday Times (2006). Sainte Foy is a friendly resort perfect for families. There are several equipment hire shops and an ESF ski school. The skiing is excellent and all abilities are catered for. The actual piste map does not do the area justice and the more adventurous are in for a treat! The higher profile resorts of Val d'Isere and Tignes are within a 10-15 minute drive of Sainte Foy and the lift pass includes special discounts for exploring these areas. Les Arcs is also easily accessible via the funicular railway from Bourg St Maurice. There is also a chairlift link to Les Arcs from Villaroger. La Rosiere is nearby on the Italian border from where it is still possible to heli-ski. Non-skiers can take advantage of the area too by walking the well-marked trails either on their own adventure or in an organised tour.
Travel
Driving from Calais approx. 8 hours. Geneva airport 2 hours 15 mins. Lyon St Exupery 2 hours. Chambery airport 1 hour 15 mins. Snow train from St Pancreas- (or Ashford International) to Bourg St Maurice 7 hours. Transfers from the airports by hire car/ski bus (altibus)/ train(SCNF & TGV). Free navette from Sainte Foy ski station to the villages of La Thuile and Sainte Foy.
Car hire is useful especially if visiting in the summer months or if you want to explore other ski resorts.

Hi Belinda
Thank you so much! What a great place. We had the most wonderful time, thank you. The apartment was perfect - and I would be more than happy to sing it's praises for you!
We will most definitely want to come again next year. I think we break up a week later. Many thanks again.
Kind regards,
Abi

Owner profile
About the owner
We are a family of 5; Ray(Dad),Belinda(Mum), Will, Ben (twins) & Hugh:oh & a dog called Buffy. All three boys are pretty good skiers; the two older ones both represent their respective universities' ski teams and Will is the ski club President. They still love coming to Sainte Foy year after year because the the skiing is so varied and it's always a great family holiday. We love it-hope you do too.
Year purchased: 2005
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We purchased Le Montagnard in 2005 after trawling larger resorts within easy reach of a major airport. We stumbled upon Sainte Foy quite by accident and although it was outside of our agreed proximity to Geneva airport we were completely entranced by the place - love at first sight. The resort has grown considerably in the last few years but still manages to retain its' charm and is one of the few that doesn't look completely hideous after the snow is gone. Cows still graze beneath our balcony in the summer and the early summer flowers are spectacular - not that the rest of my family are remotely interested in that! No, it's the skiing they crave and there's plenty of that. Powder hounds are in for a treat and if you hate queuing for lifts this is the place to come.
Unique benefits of the property
The location of Le Montagnard is just about perfect. It is 'Front de Neige', literally at the foot of the pistes. The main balcony directly overlooks the nursery slope with its' magic carpet lift, the pink 'Chapelle' and the ski kindergarten for the little tots- they get them skiing before they're barely able to walk it seems! All levels of skiers are soon able to ski in and out. We are in very close proximity to all amenities such as bars, restaurants, ESF (ski school) and ski hire as well as the supermarket, ATM and gift shop. The views from the balcony of Mount Pourri, down into the valley and beyond to La Rosiere are beautiful from one side of the apartment and from the other, unobstructed views of the pistes as they disappear into the trees.
