Further details
Our five beautiful stone cottages, situated in the wine producing village of Louzignac, near Cognac, in the Charente Maritime, South west France. Cottages for four people (two bdrooms), five people (three bedrooms), and six people (three bedrooms). Large grassy areas for children to play. Table tennis, swing and slide, boules. Carriage rides with pair of magnificent Percheron horses, through the vines and sunflowers. Enjoying micro - climate, making us the second sunniest region in France. The Charente maritime, where the land meets the sea, in gentle and undulating, perfect for bike riding and easy walking. Vines seam to cover an awful lot of our area, and a walk or carriage ride through the vines is a must. In the village of Massac close by, are a breading pair of Percheron horses (the dappled grey ones - that look like a childrens' rocking horse). They are available to come and give you the perfect half day out, through the vines and sunflowers, and traditional villages. If you are up to it they can even go at the gallop, a truly breathtaking and memorable experience. These horses, much loved by their owners, and solely used for pleasure, used to be the only "horse power" running the small farms and vineyards.
We are about an hour's drive from the coast, with the jet set marinas of Royan, the ancient pot of La Rochelle. All with lovely beaches, and the world famous La Palmyre Zoo nestling in the pine forrest behind miles of lovely clean beaches. Fort Boyard and our beatiful islands of Oleron and Ile De Re. The ancient town of Cognac with its distilleries to visit, and pedestrianised of town. Saintes, built before the Roman occupation two thousand years ago, with its ampitheatre still standing, where your children can go and be a gladiator, a real hands on experience.
Through all this runs the Charente river, peaceful and wide, offering boat trips from almost every village along its banks, and the delight of fishermen .
