The cottage which is attached to the owner’s old farmhouse has been completely renovated to a high standard. In front there is a small terrace with patio furniture and BBQ, separated from the farmhouse by a trellis, giving privacy. Parking is on the edge of the unfenced garden. On the north side of the property is the swimming pool. The cottage accommodates 5 persons, but is not suitable for children under 5 years of age. Non-smokers only please. The property is heated throughout by an oil-fired central heating system, which also heats the water.

Outside
The pool is shared only with the owner. Priority is given to guests. Size 9 x 4.5m. Table, parasol and chairs in pool area, with further table, chairs and parasol on Cottage terrace. BBQ unit provided.
Coast/Beach
La Rochelle, about 2 hours drive, is a picturesque old port with lots of shops along cobbled streets. Good restaurants, boat trips etc.

Golf in Poitiers, Angouleme, Limoges and Niort.
Travel
Nearest airports are Poitiers (approx 40km), Limoges (approx 60km).
By rail, Eurostar to Lille or Paris, then TGV from Lille or Paris to Poitiers.
Car essential: car hire available at airports and train station.

Further details
Civray our main local shopping centre (about 11km away) has banks, chemists, post office, doctors, dentists, bars/restaurants, newsagent, bakers, etc. In the main square each Tuesday the locals gather at the colourful market, to gossip and shop. On Fridays there is a smaller market only for food. At nearby Savigne there is a small commercial centre with large Intermarche, Leader Price and Netto, as well as DIY and electrical stores, garages etc. Civray Tourist Office is situated on the square and provides plenty of brochures with information on places of interest to visit and things to do to make your holiday enjoyable.
At Romagne, about 10 minutes' drive from the cottage, you can walk with chimpanzees and monkeys, and watch gorillas being fed: all in an extensive and beautiful wildlife park. An ideal experience for all ages.
Poitiers with cobbled streets, lovely shops, beautiful churches, and museums, is approximately 45 mins drive north, and another 15 mins north on the N10 is the theme park Futuroscope. There are also large Hypermarkets on the outskirts of Poitiers.
Limoges famous for its porcelain, has fabulous shops, museums and is about 1 hour's drive east of St Romain. Oradour-sur-Glane is the deserted derelict village left as a memorial to the 642 people massacred by the Germans on 10th June 1944. There is an excellent explanatory exhibition with photographs. The village is about an hour’s drive towards Limoges, via Confolens: another picturesque town on the River Vienne.
At Cognac, on the beautiful Charente river, about 1½ hours drive south, you can visit the Cognac Houses and taste their products. There is also a large wooden boat (called a ‘gabarre’, formerly used for transporting cognac to the coast) which takes visitors for trips on the river.
Climate: Spring and summer temperatures are generally higher and drier than in UK, but there can also be cooler days and rain.
