The property sits up a small lane on hill just outside the small hamlet of Athos - said to be the birthplace of the fourth musketeer. There are stunning views onto to the Pyrenees. The house has been updated for modern living without disturbing its character. A 12x6m salt pool has recently been installed. The property sits in a hectare of land and is surrounded by fields. The privacy and views from the property are complemented by its proximity to the larger village of Sauveterre, a fortified Medieval town. Opportunities for activities are endless: river rafting, walking, fishing, tennis, golf and numerous villages of interest. The Atlantic coast and surf (Biarritz) are 40 mins away. Pay basques is just across the river allowing you to experience all the delights of Basque culture as well the Gascon culture of the Bearn.

Notes on accommodation
The property is suitable for families with young children. The pool has an integral electric rolling cover - which is the responsibility of the house guests to close when the pool is not in use. In common with all other local houses there is no air conditioning. On very hot summer days the thick house walls keep the interior cool and there is a gentle breeze due to the house location.

Accessibility
The property has no specific adaptions for people with mobility problems. The stairs to the 1st floor are wide, in oak, and have a good hand rail.
Outside
In front of the house is a grassed area with the benefit of the shade of mature oak trees. The 12 x 6 saline pool is situated within 30m of the house. It has a paved terrace, there is a summer kitchen and wc facilities adjoining the terrace. The games area is near the pool. Surrounding the pool terrace is a grassed area. The remainder of the land is meadow.
Coast/Beach
Atlantic sand beaches with stunning surf - Biarritz is closest by car, 40 mins. Choices are numerous, if you prefer a sandy bay St Jean de Luz is 60 mins.
Golf
Salies de Bearn, 10 mins, 12-hole parkland course Pau, 45 mins, 18 hole, first golf course in France! Biarritz, 45 mins, numerous quality courses adjoining the Atlantic coast.
Travel
Airports: Pau, 40 mins, Ryanair. Biarritz, 40 mins, Ryanair. Toulouse, 2.5 hours, BA or Easyjet. Car hire available at all airports.

Nearest village: 4 bakers, 2 pharmacies, 3 bars, 4 mins by car.
Supermarket: 2 mins by car.
Further details
There are a number of villages with amenities within 20 mins. The nearest towns are Salies de Bearn, 15 mins and St Palais, 15 mins. Eating out is cheap and of good quality. Lunch menu is 10-15 Euros!
Booking notes
Booking will be confirmed on receipt of the deposit. The final payment is 2 months prior to date of use. A deposit for breakages/damage will be taken with the final payment. Cancellation fees apply.
