Charming traditional French farmhouse in the heart of the Tarn region with swimming pool overlooking beautiful rolling countryside, which enjoys the sunshine from early morning to the last glorious sunset. ‘Lou Vigne’ is set in a tranquil location, down a quiet country lane, near the small hamlet of Saint Salvy. The nearest village with facilities is Teillet which is 2km away. The farmhouse has been recently renovated to a very high standard, and as far as possible, the original features have been retained. The beautiful Tarn region is renowned for its chestnut forests, tranquil lakes and dramatic gorges, it boasts many beautiful medieval villages, colourful markets and quality restaurants. The elegant medieval city of Albi, the capital of the Tarn, is only 20 minutes away and offers a feast of cultural delights with its famous Gothic cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec museum. The climate is generally Mediterranean and reputed to have 300+ days of sunshine a year.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds.
Long winter lets available at discounted prices - please enquire of owners. Outside high season (July and August), if available, Lou Vigne can be let for long weekends - please enquire of owners for terms and arrangements. For prices in euros please consult owners. Rental prices include electricity, water, hot water and heating, except for lettings during the period 1 November – 31 March, when metered electricity is charged.

Changeover day
Saturday arrival from 4pm onwards and departure by 10am (local times).

Bedrooms: Bedroom 1 on ground floor, double bed.
Bedroom 2 upstairs, double bed.
Bedroom 3 upstairs 3 single beds, cot available + pull out single bed.
Bed settee.
All rooms are tastefully decorated with oak beams, exposed stone walls, stripped wooden floors.
Bathrooms: Newly fitted bathroom with large shower area, washbasin and separate wc also with small washbasin.
Kitchen: Large newly fitted kitchen with dining area. In the dining area there is a large farmhouse dining table, 2 seater sofa, and a small wood burning stove. Patio doors lead onto a small patio area that you can open up as an extension of your eating area.
Utility Room: Washing machine and drying area in a Utility room situated below the house.
Living Rooms: Lounge with oak beamed ceiling, tastefully decorated with tiled floor. There is a wood burning stove, comfortable seating, staircase to 1st floor.
Other: Entertainment, there is a TV that can be used to play DVDs (we recommend that you bring your own as although we do have some that you can borrow, they may not be to all tastes), a CD player, and a selection of English books and board games.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
All linen (towels, sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers etc,) provided. Linen changed weekly. We just request that you bring your own towels to use in the pool area.

 

Notes on accommodation
The house sleeps 7 to 9 people – There are 3 large bedrooms with ample room for 7 people, plus there is also room for a further 2 in the living room on a bed settee. There is also a pull out single bed that could be moved around to suit. Hot water is on a 24hr immersion heater. Main living room has a large wood burning stove. Dining kitchen also has a small wood burning stove – wood provided (unless out of season when a charge will be made).

Accessibility
The property is on two levels. The living room and bedroom 1 are on the ground floor which can be accessed by its own front door. Stairs up to the second floor from the living room. The kitchen is upstairs and can be accessed either by the staircase from the living room or by patio doors. There are 2 steps that take you to the other 2 bedrooms.

Outside
A small patio seating area is situated just outside the kitchen area, planted with flowering shrubs and herbs. The pool area has a separate seating area with a BBQ. The pool is fenced and is cleaned and maintained regularly. It is a 10x5m pool, with wide graduated steps at the shallow end. There is a small area that is 1m deep which then graduates to 2m at the deep end. The pool and the pool area are well illuminated for evening use. Next to the pool is a small pool house, which houses the sun loungers and parasol etc.

Coast/Beach
Aprox 2 hours to Mediterranean coast – Narbonne and Beziers.

Golf
There are a number of local golf courses, including at Albi and Florentin-Gaillac about 30 minutes away.

Travel
The nearest airports are Toulouse (1 hr), Rodez and Carcasonne (about 1/12 – 2 hrs). If you are looking for a budget airline, Ryanair flies to Rodez from Stansted, and to Carcassone from Liverpool, Jet-2 flies to Toulouse. From the channel ports about 10 hours. The TGV from Paris also goes to Toulouse; the station at Albi is 20 minutes away.

Distances
The nearest village with shops and bar is Teillet which is 2km away. The nearest market towns are Realmont, Alban and Villfranche d’Albigeois (all about 15-20 mins away). The nearest city is Albi (20-25 mins). Medieval villages such as Cordes sur Ciel, Lautrec, Monesties, Ambialet 30-50 mins. Millau Bridge 1.5 hours (highest road bridge in the world). Coast – Narbonne.

Further details
There are many activities available in the area, most within half hour of Lou Vigne. Sporting activities - such as kayaking/canoeing at St Antonin and Ambialet, golf, horse riding, rambling, cycling (bikes can be hired locally). There is a local lake complex for swimming, pedalo etc, 15 minutes away and an indoor pool complex with slides at Albi. The huge activity park Cap Decouverte is about 45 minutes away and offers water skiing, zip–wires, dry-slope skiing and snow boarding, horse-riding, water chutes, motor boats, tobogganing, cycling, skateboarding, roller-blading and carting to name but a few! Sightseeing and cultural - the area is well known for its 'bastides' or fortified medieval villages and towns. Albi has a beautiful restored centre with impressive cathedral, Toulouse Lautrec museum and medieval streets, good shopping and restaurants. The impressive new bridge at Millau makes a good day trip, taking in the caves of Roquefort en route. There are markets almost every day of the week in a local town or village and throughout the summer the region abounds in local fêtes and festivals. Wine tasting is available in most of the local vineyards. Restaurants range from the local artisanal auberges with menus from approximately 11 euros for 3 or 4 courses, sometimes with wine included, to fine regional cuisine and fantastic a la carte. Toulouse is an hour away by car or by train from Albi – France’s third largest city, it has all the shopping, museums and amenities one would expect, including an opera house with full seasons of opera and concerts (early booking is advised). Nature - the area is particularly fine for bird watching, there is also a rich population of butterflies and wild flowers.

Booking notes
Reservation is made by email or telephone. On booking a 25% deposit is required. Balance due no later than 8 wks before the start of your let along with a deposit of £200 against damage/loss. If there are no problems this is returned to you at the end of your holiday. In the event of cancellation, we will return 90% of your payment unless the cancellation is within 6 weeks of the start of your booking, in which case, we will return 90% of your payment only if we are able to re let Lou Vigne.

We spent a Lovely 2 Weeks here enjoying the weather & the pool! Very gracious and helpful hosts. The gite was terrific. Recommend a trip to Cordes-very interesting medieval city with lots of fascinating arty & crafty places & some fab restaurants.

An eventful 2 weeks!During which we felt very well cared for by our hosts.The pool was enjoyed by all our tribe-thank you. Loved the area and situation of the gite-perfect-views over the countryside,splendid peace and wildlife, and lovely local bike rides. Ambielet is fascinating, Lac de la Bancalie an excellent family day out, and finally Cap DeCouverte-brilliant value for money, family adventure day-the boys would travel all the back just for this!
