Situated on a tranquil private estate in the Basque village of Bidart, just south of the bustling resort of Biarritz, my charming maisonette is 150 yards from a fabulous beach down a bamboo-lined path. No roads, in fact no nothing, to cross. The beach has soft sand, waves for surfers who like to ride them and children who like to jump them, rock pools and a cafe. At low tide it is possible to walk to Bidart one way and Biarritz the other. Easy to reach by road, rail or air. Local attractions, apart from the sea, include a superb coastal golf course right next to the estate, a nearby renowned campsite with a handy shop for croissants, beer, takeaways etc, a pelote stadium and a host of fabulous restaurants, two on the next beach. A supermarket and other shops are within walking distance. Nearby are Biarritz (casino, beaches, restaurants, bars, concert halls); San Sebastian (renowned for night life); St Jean de Luz (beautiful fishing port) and the majestic Pyrenees mountains.

Changeover day
Normal departure before noon Saturday. Arrival after 3pm Saturday. Minor flexibility on these times may be possible. Please check.

Notes on accommodation
A bicycle with panniers is provided free of charge. The estate has a rubbish hut, emptied daily by the local authority. The TV is equipped with multi TNT channels - the French equivalent of Freeview. Smoking only allowed outside on patios. Sorry, no pets.
Accessibility
Entire property apart from mezzanine bedroom located on one floor. One standard-sized step up from front and rear patios.
Outside
The maisonette has patios front and rear to catch the sun morning and afternoon. The rear patio has tables and chairs, a sun canopy, small basic barbecue and night light. The estate has communal gardens, mainly grassed, with shrubs and pine trees.
Coast/Beach
150 yard, 6 minute walk along bamboo-lined path to beach, passing between golf course and well run, four star campsite. The beach, called Pavillon Royal after the palace looking over it, is renowned for surfing and sunbathing, and has picturesque views along the Basque coastline. Surfing lessons are available. A temporary discreet cafe selling cold beer, soft drinks, sandwiches and hot food is set up during high season. Many other beaches are within easy reach, some featuring restaurants/bars.
Golf
A superb coastal golf course, with tuition by international experts available, is situated right next to the estate. It makes for a tranquil setting whether or not you play golf.
Travel
Biarritz airport 3km/5 minute taxi ride away. Bargain direct flights by Ryanair from London Stansted and by EasyJet from Gatwick. Biarritz airport is not busy and planes do NOT fly over the maisonette. Biarritz railway station and Bordeaux to Spain autoroute 2km away. The maisonette has its own parking slot in the estate, which is protected by key-operated gates. Also a fairly short drive from Santander ferry port.

Further details
The four-star Camping Pavillon campsite, situated just around the corner from the estate, is handy for light shopping (especially for fresh croissants in the morning!). It also has a decent, well-run and pretty restaurant with a takeaway service. The proprietors are happy to let my maisonette's visitors use the campsite facilities, apart from the swimming pool, upon receipt of a courtesy request. A commercial district ten minutes walk from the maisonette has a large supermarket, a chemist's, a petrol station, a garden centre and several other shops. There are a host of local places of interest and leisure activities, full details of which can be found in brochures/leaflets etc kept in the maisonette.
