Owner profile
The Atkins family in 2003
About the owner
We are two English families - Grahame & Helen Atkins, who manage the property and lettings from their home in Jersey. And Jonathan & Susi Loy who have lived in the US in recent years.
We first visited the mill in 2000 on a dark wet December evening. Even in that light we were struck by its unique charm. We returned the next day and agreed to buy immediately our own use and holiday rentals.
The property needed extensive renovation, most of which we managed to complete in time for the summer of 2001 with further improvements and upgrades since then. Around 200 families have now visited the property.
In 2011, The Loy family will move to France and will be on hand at Moulin Begasse to help maintain and further develop the property as an exciting and unique holiday location.
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We wanted a special holiday venue with tranquility, character and enough space to accommodate large parties. We loved the central Brittany area which has beautiful rolling hills with forests and gushing streams. It is easily accessible from the UK and yet the roads are quiet and a joy to use by car, bike or on foot. We found the locals friendly and really helpful when we were renovating the property. Although there are English settlers in the area they are in the minority which is important to us as we have no desire to be part of an English ghetto.
Unique benefits of the property
We fell in love with Moulin Begasse as soon as we saw it. A property with a lake provides a stillness which is hard to find these days. And although the property has a feeling of remoteness there are loads of interesting places to visit nearby.
