Full of character and wooden beams, the Maison d'Artistes has two apartments, each for 2/6 people, and available separately or together. Both apartments have been renovated to a very high standard. Large snooker table. You can also relax in the spectacular Grande Salle (Jotul fireplace, chandelier, large comfortable sofa/armchairs and 4-metre oak dining table) and use the fully-fitted Grande Cuisine - making a magnificently spacious holiday home of 415 sq.m (or 4500 sq.ft)! While the whole house will be 100% private if you reserve both apartments, if you reserve just one apartment the Grande Salle and Grande Cuisine may be shared (with guests staying in the other apartment). With a shared 12 metre x 6 metre swimming pool, tourism and cultural attractions all over the region (and with civilization just a 15 minute drive away), there are very few holiday locations that can compare!

Notes on prices
Prices are quoted per apartment per week in euros. An additional charge of 100 euros per apartment per week will be made for energy (gas, electricity, logs), bedlinen, towels and cleaning. All guests have the right to use the Grande Salle and Grande Cuisine at no additional cost.
Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday, departure no later than 10.00 please, and arrival not before 15.00. Lots of flexibility of day and time out of high season but, regrettably, there is very little flexibility during July/August.
Notes on accommodation
Fully central heated, with log burning stove in the Grande Salle. While the 1st floor apartment is suitable for young children, the 2nd floor apartment is less suitable due to low windows. The Maison d'Artistes is a non-smoking house.
In case you are interested, there are other apartments/houses at the Domaine de Montagnac (with 1 - 7 bedrooms) providing a lot of flexibility whatever the size of your party. By the way, if your aim is to find absolute peace/tranquility (even isolation), you may be well advised not to come during July or August. While it is never noisy at the Domaine de Montagnac, there are likely to be other people staying in some of the other houses during those months.
Accessibility
Sadly neither apartment is wheelchair accessible.
Outside
The Domaine de Montagnac is a remarkable place. Set in a quiet and beautiful (but not remote) part of the Ariege in southwest France, with rolling hills all around, it is an ideal base for a relaxing rural holiday. There is a large (2 hectares) garden which itself is surrounded by more than 50 hectares of private land. As well as the local village (St Felix de Tournegat) being classified as a National Monument, there are amazing panoramic views of the Pyrenees mountain range – close enough for skiing or high altitude walks. The Maison d'Artistes has a large terrace that looks out over fields and woods - ideal for hot summer evenings. You’ll have unrestricted access to our swimming pool (which is shared with other people staying at the domain).
Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean coast is 1¾ - 2½ hours drive by motorway. We recommend: Narbonne-Plage (1¾ hours drive); Valras-Plage (2 hours drive); Gruissan-Plage (1¾ hours drive); and Collioure (2½ hours drive).
Golf
The nearest golf course is the Golf-Club de l’Ariège at Unjat, near La Bastide de Sérou, 20kms west of Foix towards Saint Girons. The course has 18 holes and is a 6900 metre Par 71. The Club Professional (Olivier Kuchly) is there throughout the year. The 'L’esprit vert' bar/restaurant is open to everybody.
Skiing
There are several ski resorts within easy driving distance. While not as grand (or expensive!) as large resorts in the Alps, all local ski resorts in the Pyrenees have a good variety of skiing in lovely surroundings. The nearest ski resort, les Monts D'Olmes, is a 45 minute drive away. Ax-les-Thermes, and the duty-free principality of Andorra are a little further.
Travel
Nearest airports are Carcassonne (45 minutes), Toulouse (1 hour) and Perpignan (2 hours). Tarbes/Lourdes and Pau airports are further afield. When driving from the UK, we often take the tunnel and stop overnight in Paris or the Loire Valley.
Distances
The charming medieval town of Mirepoix is 10kms away, as is the larger Pamiers (which has almost every type of shop you can imagine). The Cathar town of Foix (with its fortified chateau) is 20km away. Limoux and the ruined hilltop castle at Montsegur are also a short drive away. For those wanting the sea, the Mediterranean is about 2 hours away and the famous town of Collioure a little bit further.

A 30% deposit will be requested when you book (payment via electronic transfer to our French bank account). The balance will be due 8 weeks before your arrival.
