Situated in the pretty village of St Georges de la Riviere, less than 2km from the beach, Les Mimosas (8 rue Bonvalet) and Les Pommiers offer the perfect base for a Cote des Iles holiday. The cottages are in the centre of a peaceful traditional French seaside village and are situated on the road leading to the beach. Les Mimosas is at ground level only with French doors opening on to the walled south-facing garden, enclosed and gated. Les Pommiers is a studio gite with mezzanine bedroom. The property has a walled courtyard with off-road (gated) parking and large, sheltered walled orchard - very secure for young children. Ideal for lazing in the dunes, trekking on horse back, or cycling and walking along the miles of sandy coast, our cottage is also well placed to walk or cycle to the sailing resorts of Barneville Carteret and Portbail. Each property has its own private garden. For a guest with impaired mobility, Les Mimosas would be more suitable than Les Pommiers.

Notes on prices
We ask for a 25% deposit at the time of booking, payable by cheque, direct transfer or Paypal. You are welcome to pay deposit in pounds sterling in paying by cheque (exchange rate conversion at time of booking). The balance is payable in euros on arrival. All bedlinen is included in the price. There are no extra charges. All heating included. Please enquire for last min 2008 rental prices.
Changeover day
Preferred changeover day is Saturday, but we can offer flexibility outside high season.

Les Pommiers (Studio gite, Sleeps 2/4)

Newly restored studio cottage. Upper floor mezzanine bedroom with double bed. There is a cot available. The open-plan living area has a sofa/sofa-bed and armchairs. There is a DVD player/screen with a selection of DVDs, but no television reception. There is also a radio/CD player - the cottage has good reception for British FM radio channels. A good selection of books too. The kitchen/dining area is equipped with gas cooker, fridge, coffee-maker and washing machine. The shower room has a walk-in shower, washbasin and WC. |

Notes on accommodation
Les Mimosas is single storey only. It is ideal for two people or a family with a baby and/or toddlers, as the lawned garden is enclosed and there are no stairs within the property.
Les Pommiers' sleeping area is accessed by a short flight of 'grenier' (attic) stairs - these have narrow treads. The ground-floor kitchen/living area has a shower room adjoining with separate WC. Ideal accommodation for one or two people or a family with younger children.
Accessibility
Les Mimosas is suitable for people with reduced mobility - hand rails are provided in both shower room and wc. However only the sitting room is wheelchair accessible. Access is not possible to the other rooms by wheelchair as the doorways are too narrow.
Les Pommiers is not suitable for a wheelchair. However, the sofa-bed/kitchen and sitting room area, plus shower room/WC are all the ground floor.
Outside
Les Mimosas has a lawned south-facing enclosed garden, accessed by double French doors from sitting room. Garden loungers are available plus BBQ, table and chairs for outside dining.
Les Pommiers has a walled and gated sheltered courtyard (with off-road parking) as well as a mature walled orchard to the rear. Very child friendly as the orchard is secure. Garden loungers are available plus BBQ, table and chairs for outside dining.
If two families or friends are staying in both properties, they may be linked by an internal garden gate (safe from road) - ideal for a young family and grandparents.
Coast/Beach
St Georges de la Riviere, is famous for Les Dunes de St Georges on a totally unspoilt beach just 20 minutes walk, or 5 minutes drive from our cottages. The beach has a boating slipway and free parking.
Golf
Nine-hole golf course in neighbouring village, St Jean de la Rivière, close to sea. Cycling: If you would like to hire bicycles, we are able to collect them for you from the inexpensive Bike Hire shop in nearby Portbail and return them at the end of your stay. The Cotentin peninsula offers wonderful cycling routes, with gentle undulating countryside and beautiful quiet lanes.
Special interest holidays
Les Mimosas and Les Pommiers are ideally situated for cyclists or walkers. A myriad of flat tiny lanes connect the coastal villages to beaches. The undulating bocage is around half an hour by bicycle inland from the coast: a network of high hedged quiet roads and bridleways criss-cross the peninsula.
A "Train Touristique" runs from 27 June to 5 September on Tuesdays and Thursday between St Georges and market towns Portbail and Barneville-Carteret.
The Marais region, around half an hour away by car, is a large area of protected marshland with an abundance of waterfowl and bankside mammals. Canoes may be hired at St Sauveur le Vicomte and guided boat trips are available with stops at both a restaurant and a café. A treetop adventure trail is available at St Sauveur le Vicomte.
Travel
Nearest airport is Caen (90 minutes drive) or Cherbourg (40 minutes). Ferry services: LD Lines from Portsmouth to Le Havre/Newhaven to Dieppe is a good ferry choice with sensible prices: www.ldlines.com. The company has just introduced 180 degree reclining seats for night crossings. Brittany Ferries has routes into Cherbourg (45 mins by car) and Caen (100 mins by car).
Distances
The sailing resorts of Portbail and Barneville-Carteret are both 10 minutes drive from cottage.
Further details
The village has an epicerie for general groceries and adjoining bar with open log-fire on cooler days.
The market towns of Portbail and Barneville Carteret are both within a five minute drive (15 minutes by bicycle). Both towns have sailing schools that also offer sand-yachting and boats and yachts for hire. The neighbouring village to St Georges, St Jean de la Riviere, has a nine hole golf course and riding school. In the summer season there are usually day trips available to the Channel Islands - from either Portbail or Barneville-Carteret.
