Accessibility
The property is on a single level and the surrounding grounds are also flat, therefore wheelchair or elderly users will find this an easy place to stay in. However please note that the doors to the bedrooms are too narrow to permit wheelchair access; there are 6 shallow and wide steps leading to the swimming pool. A car is essential to reach the villa and to visit all the wonderful surrounding sites.

Outside
The private swimming pool for exclusive use of our guests measures 11x5m, has an adjoining jacuzzi and is surrounded by a large patio with reclining chairs, tables and sun umbrellas. It is totally secluded - you can relax here and enjoy the magnificent views over the surrounding hillsides or go for a game of pétanque (French bowls), play ping-pong or volleyball. The villa and pool are south facing and surrounded by gardens and trees. We may consider putting in heating in order to use the swimming pool outside of the summer season (May to October) if there is sufficient demand. There is a barbecue close to the outside dining area. The villa is in a remarkably quiet area down a narrow lane which ends in a cul-de-sac. Our neighbours own the adjoining olive grove. The lane leads from the villa to the nearby village of Claviers (2.5 kms), but it is also possible to walk to the village via a shortcut up the hill (20 minutes).

Coast/Beach
The villa is in a perfect location - in the hills and yet only 45 minutes drive from the renowned Côte d'Azur resorts of St. Tropez, St. Maxine, St. Raphael, Fréjus and Cannes. The region boasts a large choice of sandy beaches, harbours, islands & sheltered coves. Nearby Lac St. Cassien & Lac St. Croix provide water sports. Fishing under an hour's drive, as is the dramatic scenery of Les Gorges du Verdon, the Esterel national park with hiking / climbing available & 150 kms of coastal paths.

Golf
There are 2 new golf course in Tourettes/Fayence, a 20 minute drive from the villa. There is also a very challenging course at La Motte (15 minutes drive away) and several courses nearer to St. Raphael (40 minutes drive).

Skiing
La Foux d'Allos, Le Seignus and Pra Loup are 1 hour away, by car.

Travel
The region is well supplied with excellent air, road and rail links. Nice and Toulon airports are 1 hour away by car with easy rental car facilities; the high speed train (3 hours from Paris) serves Marseille or Aix en Provence, and from there a train service brings you to within 30 minutes of the villa at Les Arcs. Or take your car through France on the excellent motorway system (12 hours from Calais) or via the famous Route Napolean with fabulous stops en route. A car is essential.

Distances
Claviers is in the beautiful unspoilt department of the Var which boasts some of the most beautiful hilltop villages in France, such as Bargemon, Callas and Claviers - 5 minutes by car; Fayence, Seillans, Figanières, Callian & Monteraux - 15 to 30 minutes. Between them you have a good choice of restaurants in all price ranges. Or be more adventurous - go to Aix-en-Provence, Nice old town, Menton, Aups or nearby unspoit islands (Port Cros, Porquerolles etc.) the choice is endless.

Further details
Claviers village has 2 restaurants, a pizzeria (+ takeaway), a bar, bakery and small supermarket. Bargemon and Callas have a range of restaurants, banks, post-offices and small supermarkets. Larger supermarkets are 30 minutes drive and all around there are small villages with restaurants and interesting shopping. All of the local villages have market days - particularly lovely is the one at Le Muy. There is also a superb farmers' market at Callian where we buy all our fruit and vegetables. This area is also famous for its vineyards, with several reputed AOC labels, particularly for rosé wine. Olive plantations are everywhere and you will be able to buy loval olive oil from the many "moulins", including nearby at Callas. And if you are looking for top class dining, there are michelin starred restaurants in Fayence, Callas and Les Adrets.

The area is superb for exploring the magnificent natural splendour of the Var, whether inland or on the coast. The area is rich in history so castles, monasteries and other ancient places of interest are everywhere. The Var is also brilliant for walking, whether in Claviers itself (a superb hilltop walk to St. Anne's to look over the village and the surrounding hills) or further afield, up into the pre-alpine hills and mountains, to the gorges of Pennafort & Verdon, or along the delightful coastal path which stretches from St. Tropez to Toulon, past wild streches of beach and cliff, with glimpses of the homes of the super rich! There are a number of zoos, playgrounds and aquasports for children and also beginners courses (a baptism or a programme) in different sports such as ULM, gliding, jet skis etc.

Along the coast, you can catch boats to the differents islands - all completely unspoilt with lovely walks, protected marine life, snorkelling & diving; worth mentioning are Port Cros, Porquerolles & Ile St. Marguerite.
