Nestled halfway up the south facing slope of a beautiful valley, this lovely farmhouse looks out across fields of grazing Charollaise cattle and meadows filled with wild flowers during springtime and summer. The lane that runs past the front gates is bordered with foxgloves in May and June and blackberries (which go very nicely with the apples from the orchard) in the autumn. Directly opposite you can see the beautiful, wooded slopes, with their ever changing shades of green of Mont St. Cyr. The village of Montmelard dominates the nearby hill, with its impressive church spire silhouetted against the skyline. On clear nights glance upwards and be stunned by the breathtaking sight of the Milky Way stretching out forever. The house has many original features including exposed beams, original bread oven and huge stone fireplace. If you want a day out historic Cluny is a 15 minute drive, lively Macon (with its wineries) 30 minutes and there are castles and lakes aplenty nearby.

There are stone steps leading up to the front door which may restrict wheelchair access or deter small children. A car is necessary as this is a rural location.
Outside
The great big orchard, with its many cherry, apple, pear, walnut, plum, damson and quince trees (please help yourselves when the fruit is in season) makes a wonderful setting for dining al fresco or simply sitting and taking in the clear air and splendid views. Have a picnic in the shade or, if you prefer a large wooden garden table and chairs, and a huge parasol are available. The swimming pool is heated and flood-lit giving an opportunity to take some exercise, calmly float or splash around on a hot afternoon. It has a limestone paved surround where you can relax on sun beds complete with comfortable mattresses. There is a large brick built BBQ for outdoor cooking close by the pool. In August, the tranquil setting is all the more charming for the glow worms in the hedge rows and the shooting stars overhead. The house is not overlooked (the nearest neighbour is .5 km away).
Golf
30 minutes away, set in the midst of charming vineyards of the Bourgogne region, tee off from a unique and challenging course. Designed by architect Robert Berthet, the Château de la Salle's 18 links offer the ideal test for both beginners to more advanced players. Combine the best of both worlds, amazing green links and the rich culture of southeast France.

Further details
Montmelard (1 mile): The small village of Montmelard is home to a fantastic restaurant – Le Saint Cyr. Mont St Cyr, the highest point in Southern Burgundy, is signposted from the village. It’s a two minute drive, but why drive when you can walk along a woodland path that starts from the wooded picnic area. Breathing in the tranquil settings on your ascent you are rewarded with breathtaking views on reaching the summit. There are two viewing areas: the orientation area and a large crucifix mounted on rocks. Dompierre Les Ormes (4 miles): has a number of amenities at your disposal including a post office, supermarket, patisserie, boulangerie, charcuterie, taxi, bank, hotel, bar, restaurants. Just outside Dompierre is the Arboretum de Pezanin one of the oldest arboretums in France. More than 400 species of trees and shrubs from all over the world, including some exotic varieties rarely seen in Europe, have been planted in a peaceful setting around a small lake.
The medieval town of Cluny with its Benedictine Abbey is also home to the National Stud, shops, bars and restaurants. The area also possesses some excellent underground treasures with a number of prehistoric cave sites. The Castle road takes in 6 major castles in the area including Chateau de Cormatin and the beautiful Chateau de La Clayette where outdoor concerts are held during the summer.
When in Burgundy, do as the Burgundians do. Wine tasting of course. Now it goes without saying that the wine tasting is second to none. To the north lie the vineyards of the Cote d’Or (Nuits St Georges, Beaune) but closer to home is the Macon route. Maps for all Burgundy wine areas and tasting opportunities can be found at the house.
There are numerous long-distance footpaths and country trails in the area - La Voie Verte is dedicated to cyclists, roller bladers, horse riders and walkers alike.
To the west the canals offer boating and other water sport activities.
