Property has been recently renovated by Marg & Jim who live in one end of the house. Beautiful thick stone walls keep you cool in summer & warm in winter. Original features have been Kept & the character maintained. Curved stone staircase leads from hallway to 2 bedrooms with a spacious landing & shower room. A corridor passes utility room & double bedroom to lounge with high ceilings & comfortable seating. The open plan leads into kitchen /dining area. The village of Cubieres nestles in the valley of the river Agly & is welcoming. Join the villagers at their local Fetes of which there are numerous! Conveniently situated between the Mediterranean & the Pyrenees, the village is 1 hour from Perpignan, Catalan stronghold, 40 minutes from Rennes le Chateau. The famous citadel of Carcassonne is 1.5 hours away. The area is famous for its vineyards & wines. St Paul de Fenouillet is 15 minutes drive down the gorge. A small town providing all facilities. Cathar - Queribus & Peyrepetuse nearby.

Changeover day
Saturday is preferred. Arrival at 3pm and departure at 10am.

Accessibility
The Gite is not wheelchair accessible. There are steps into kitchen & lounge. Downstairs bedroom also has one step. So some mobility is necessary.
Outside
Large garden with seated patio area with table, chairs, umbrella & barbecue. Stream runs through garden & trees provide shade.
Flower beds & lawn (depending on time of year -if green!) Bridle path passes between house & garden leading to meadows & footpath, only used by horses, walkers & person going to feed his dogs & farmer once a year to mow meadows. Space for parking car.
Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean is one hour drive away, either to the sea or Etangs (salt lakes) where wild-life abound. Canet Plage is busy & has many markets or quieter beaches are close to. Also nearby, 10 minutes, walking to gorge swimming or 30 minutes drive to Cascades for swimming in pools.
Special interest holidays
Self guided or guided walking holidays are on offer. The area has extensive opportunities for exploring nature, historical sites (Cathar Castles), climbing hills, mountains & exploring gorges. Details on website.
Travel
Perpignan airport is 45 minutes, Carcasonne is 1.5 hours. Also Perpignan station is one hour away - some of our guests have travelled by train. It is essential for self-catering to have transport. If driving from ports one over night stop is recommended as a minimum.

St. Paul has banks, supermarket, market twice a week and a choice of cafes and restaurant. Local villages Bugarach & Soultage have restaurants.
We are also able to provide, at extra cost, an evening meal for people in the Gite. Using local produce & wines.

About the owner
Jim, Lobo and I are still loving Cubieres sur Cinoble & area. Our 4th year of running the Gite and we have shared the beauty of house, village & area with so many special people, very cosmopolitan.
I'm discovering new walks,Pic du Bugarach, Roman Aqueduc, Cathar Castles, forests, Salt route, & so much more.
Each season brings something special, orchids & wild flowers of spring, summer bathing in the Gorge du Galamus, village Fetes & visits to coast & Perpignan & Carcassonne for fire works on 'Fete Nationalé'. Autumn colours on the hillsides, searching for wild mushrooms & Winter with its tranquility & woodburning stoves & time to catch-up after the busy year.
Jim is still painting & has done a series of old cars. am involved in project to restore church & sing in local choir. Come visit

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Cubieres is a small village & has been most welcoming to us. It has a real sense of community & the summer Fetes are great fun.
Although in the countryside a 10 minute drive takes you to St Paul du Fenouillet with all amenities.
We have acres of woodland to explore, Cathar Castles_ Peyrepertuse, Queribus, Puilauren & others to visit.
River swimming, Canyoning, & Via Ferrata for the adventuress among you.
In spring & early summer the meadows are full of orchids & many wild flowers. The Garrigue is full of the scents of Thyme, Rosemary, Lavander, Cystus & many other mediterranean flowers.
On the edge of Aude & Pyrenees Orientales, Catalan & Occitan blend their culture, wine & food.
A magic combination of landscapes, nature, history, sunshine, cultures & an hour from the mediterranean.
Unique benefits of the property
1 Rue des Lavandieres is an old traditional stone house which stays cool in the heat of summer. Comfortable living area with a large collection of books & an easy to use kitchen with all mod cons. Marg is happy to provide evening meals if ordered & there is a snack bar in the village.
The garden has a lovely seating area to enjoy the beautiful weather. A hammock under a shady tree also provides the opportunity to relax, read & unwind.
There is a cool stream that goes through the garden, fishing & paddling for children and adults to cool off.
The bedrooms are cool & comfortable - downstairs room with ensuite & A lovely cool spacious hallway with a chaise longe to relax on. Upstairs front bedroom has good view of Bugarach & surrounding area. Twin bedroom is peaceful & calm.
