Travel
A car is essential to a holiday at La Bergerie. Car hire is available at all airports and main railway stations. St Martin des Puits is a 10 -12 hour drive from the Channel ports. An overnight stop is adviseable. Carcassonne airport is just 1 hour away. Perpignan airport is an hour and a half on the Auto route. Toulouse and Montpellier Airports are 2 hours away on the Autoroute.

Distances
Lagrasse with its medieval abbeys, cafes and restaurants, shops, boulangerie and ATM is just 12km away. St Laurents has a great locals supermarket with its own butchery and is 16km away. Go to the typically French market at Lezignan on a Wednesday and in Narbonne on a Thursday. The Disneyesque fortress town of Carcassonne is just an hour away. Within a 25km radius you can visit some of the finest Cathar Castles including Peyreperteuse and Queribus.

Further details
St Martin des Puits is in the heart of the dramatic scenery of the hills of the Corbieres, an area steeped in natural and cultural history, with the Cathar strongholds, perched precariously on rocky limestone outcrops. In the valley below the village is The River Orbieu and the Orbieu Gorge. But the area isn't all about history. Everywhere you drive there is evidence of a thriving present, with vineyards offering the opportunity to taste the wines of the area, from the Corbieres and Minervois wines to the famous Fitou and Rivesaltes - something for every taste and budget. As well as drinking well there are plenty of places to eat from cafes to posh restaurants and everything in between. For those who enjoy the outdoors the possibilities are endless from walking to VTT; from horse riding or swimming in either the sea or rivers, to sitting in the sunshine; the possibilities are endless. Lovers of flora and fauna will find plenty of interest especially in the Spring when the flowers are at their best and in the Autumn when the vines and trees change colour. We have produced a walks guide and a drives guide which are proving to be very popular with our visitors. For those who feel the need to travel a bit further afield, then Andorra is a possibility, driving through the southern Pyrenees. The Dali museum at Figueres via the museum of Modern Art at Ceret can be part of a day’s excursion. Collioure is a must for those interested in the Fauvust painters.
