Accoce is ideally located for hiking, as beautiful walks can be taken directly from the house without using the car at all. The GR10 passes through the village, and we provide information about many other local hikes (Pic d'Orhy, Pic des Escaliers etc). Fantastically fun for children: aside from playing in the stream and under the waterfall, they can bounce on the trampoline or make huts or treehouses in the woods. There is a wonderful swimming hole 5k away (in the Saison river, with rock to dive from into icy clear water, otters, trout) 5k away. The beach is 1½ hour away (Basque coast), La Pierre St Martin ski station is 12km away, handy village shop and bar is at the bottom of the hill, within easy walking distance. Good and friendly restaurant in the village. Clean mountain air, peace and quiet, the tinkle of sheep bells.

Outside
In the walled garden there's a table and chairs and a BBQ. In the barn there's some sporting equipment: a ping-pong table, rounders, pétanque, dartboard and badminton. Out in a field is a large trampoline.
Coast/Beach
1½ - 2 hour drive away is the Basque coast (Biarritz, St Jean de Luz, etc).
Golf
Pau, 1¼ hour away, has the oldest golf course in Europe (Billère).
Skiing
La Pierre St Martin (12k away) is a small family ski resort with slopes from beginners to expert, skiing lessons, shops and a restaurant.
Travel
You do need a car. The nearest airports are Pau (1¼ hour) and Biarritz (1½ hour). We are 4 hours from Toulouse and 3½ hours from Bordeaux. It's a 4 hour drive from the Bilbao ferry and a 5 hour drive from the Santander ferry.
Further details
There's a local provisions shop at the bottom of the hill (500m). In the village proper (5k away) there's a lovely Romanesque church, several bars and a good, simple restaurant. The nearest shopping town with banks, Monday-morning market, shops, bars, restaurants, etc. is Tardets (15k away). In our village is La Gorge de Kakueta, a good, safe walk for children and older people along a beautiful ravine, past a waterfall and up to a cave. The Spanish border is just 30k away, over a gorgeous mountain pass and down into the beautiful Valle de Roncal, and it's well worth doing a day trip into Spain. We are in the Basque country, in a Basque-speaking village (French is also spoken), and there are many interesting Basque cultural and sporting events going on Pastorales, La Force Basque, pelote matches, village fêtes, dance events etc.

To secure your booking, please send a deposit of 25% of the total fee (150 euros if one week) and send the balance 6 weeks before arrival.
