Notes on accommodation
The property is ideal for children as it lies on a no through road - it also has the benefit of a large garden with swings and a slide. Cots, high chairs, car seats, prams, changing mats etc can be provided on request. There is central heating should it be necessary.

Accessibility
There is a twin-bedded room on the ground floor with an en- suite shower room perfectly suitable for those with impaired mobility. There are grab handles by the toilet and in the shower. Although there is one step down into the barn we have ramps, if required, for a wheelchair. Once in the building there are no further steps on the ground floor.

Outside
From the barn there are two sets of double doors leading to the private and totally enclosed walled garden. There is a brick built barbecue and the patio is completely lit for late night wining and dining. The whole area is enclosed, private and sheltered. A few steps lead up to the pool area where you will find the swimming pool, 4 x 10m, with Roman steps allowing easy and safe entry. The pool is for your sole enjoyment. Around the swimming pool is a large terrace with sun loungers and a dining table and chairs. This area overlooks the large, mainly grassed, garden. There is plenty of parking.

Coast/Beach
This area in the Dordogne is not coastal but the beaches on the Atlantic coast, including the famous Dune de Pyla at Arcachon, can be reached in under two hours. Biarritz is three hours away. Locally there is the Lac de Gurcon which has sandy shores and a large lake suitable for swimming. There are bars, a waterslide and pedallos. It is a wonderful venue for children.

Golf
There is a 9-hole golf club close by and a much larger golf venue nearby at Chateau de Vigiers. There are several other golf courses available in the local area. We can also arrange fishing in one of three private lakes - carp, black bass and perch. All equipment is available to hire.

Travel
Bergerac airport, served by Ryanair, Flybe and Jet2, is 40 minutes away. Bordeaux airport, served by BA, Easyjet, BMIBaby, Flybe, and Aer Lingus, is just over an hour. Driving by car from the channel ferry ports is uncomplicated and mainly motorway driving (unless you choose to use smaller roads). You can benefit from a DISCOUNT with Brittany Ferries - ask us for further details.

Distances
Sainte Foy la Grande - 15 minutes. Bergerac - 40 minutes. Bordeaux - 1 hour. Perigueux - 1.25 hours. Rocamadour - 2 hours. Sarlat - 2 hours. Duras - 45 minutes. Spanish border - 3 hours.

Further details
Le Grand Bost is just outside the village of Montazeau which has a very good restaurant and a 'vente directe' chateau. There are dozens of 'vente directe' wine producers in the region and wine tastings can be arranged. The nearest village for bread and emergency supplies is five minutes by car, and has several shops including a pharmacy, a restaurants and a doctor's surgery. Supermarket shopping is 15 minutes away. The area is well served by restaurants and cafe/bars.

The Dordogne is a beautiful part of southwest France with a very good climate. Within short drives there is the city of Bordeaux, the beautiful and historic town of St Emilion, the very picturesque town of Brantome, Duras with its castle, Bergerac with its quaint old town and many more wonderful places to visit. If, like us, you enjoy food and wine you will be in heaven. For the more energetic there are countryside walks, cycling (we can arrange cycle hire), canoeing on the river, golf close by, horseriding, and caves at Sarlat. Montazeau has a tennis court for hire. Nearby Lac de Gurson has proved popular with families and offers lake swimming, pedallos, sandy beaches and 3 bar/restaurants. If you are prepared to take a longer journey you can visit Cognac, Angouleme or Limoges - or head further south to the Spanish border - have a day out and lunch in Biarritz.

Guest comments
Guests always comment on how perfect the property is, how large and spacious the rooms are, and the peace and quiet.

'We are now starting to get ourselves together after a quite uneventful journey home following what was a completely enjoyable visit to your delightful gite. A gite which completely suited our requirements and needs. Your friendship and hospitality quite unforgettable.' (John and friends, May 2011)

'... how much we all enjoyed our stay in your gite. Everything was perfect in the accommodation and it was just as we expected it to be from the photographs. Both you and David helped to ensure we enjoyed our stay by giving us advice when we required it, but keeping yourselves to yourselves most of the time. We particularly enjoyed the visit which David arranged to the vineyard. It was most informative and the wines were excellent. .Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable. (Peter and friends, June 2011).
