An old Charentaise countryside house of 300 years, Clos Berenice, is entirely luxuriously restored in 2006/2007. Located in Thors, 15 mins drive from Cognac, and 3kms from Matha. Thors has its own baker, who is also coming everyday to sell his bread and croissants...The very high standard and comfort, (2 bathrooms, 3 wc), the stone and limey walls and the choice of colours, make this house an ideal place for relaxing either in winter or summer. Frédérique, previously an interior designer, gave the best of the 'French touch' to this ancient countryside house. In a cosy atmosphere, spacious rooms, 2 en-suite luxury bedrooms, original fireplace, with French door facing the pool. The French rural tranquility can be found in this truly unspoilt area of France. Countryside everywhere around is vineyards, sunflowers and genuine villages with their Romanesque churches and traditionnal markets.

Changeover day
Changeover is Saturday. Time for arrival after 5pm and before 10am for departure.

| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Bath and pool towels are supplied. The beds are ready for your arrival, and you can ask for a maid service during your stay (14 euros/hour). |

The Clos Berenice has electrical heating - cot and highchair provided. Beds are ready before arrival, and household linen provided, including bath towels and pool towels. The house is no smoking. Sorry, no pets accepted. Long term lets available out of season, please contact the owner.

Outside
The detached property offers plenty of space to relax and there is several shady areas. Pool for private use, large wooden deck with sun lounge-beds. Summer-room, open space for relaxing or dining, surrounded by wonderfull stone-walls, barbecue facilities, etc...
Enclosed private garden, with sofas. Car-parking area. Free access to the Sonnac tennis court (5 mn). Lake and water sport facilities in the village of Thors. Fishing, cycling, swimming etc...
Coast/Beach
Royan, the most famous seaside resort on the Atlantic coast, is 50 mins drive. It's large beach, shops, and nearby La Palmyre zoo (largest in Europe) make this coast mostly attractive. If you prefer no buildings and only the dunes, the pine-tree forests and the 'wild beach', you will be absolutely delighted by the Cote Sauvage, 40km long. Do not forget La Rochelle with its lovely gardens, old buildings and towers.

We have 6 courses less than 1 hour drive: Cognac (15 mins), 18 holes, 6142 m par 72. Saintes (30 mins), 18 holes, 4790 m par 62. Royan (50 mins), 18 holes, 5620 m par 71. Niort (45 mins), 18 holes, 6400 m par 74. Angouleme (40 mins), 18 holes, 6346 m par 70. La Rochelle (60 mins), 18 holes, 6012 m par 72.
Travel
Matha is located in the Charente Maritime, department of south-west France. The area is served well by low-cost airlines with 4 airports: La Rochelle, Potiers, Bordeaux and Limoges. The nearest port is Saint Malo and the railway station is in Cognac. A classic car can be rented.
Distances
Thors village is 15 mins drive from Cognac, and 3kms from Matha, which offers restaurants, 3 supermarkets, 50 shops (1 organic food shop, tourist office, estate agents and more). We are surrounded by Cognac and wine producers.
Further details
Thors has its fishing lake, where you can find all sorts of entertainments, such as pedalos, mini-golf, playing area for children, etc, and a restaurant facing the lake.

For booking simply send us an email and we shall confirm uou the availability and send you immediatly a booking form by return email. Deposit is 25% of the total amount of booking, the rest is due 4 weeks before your holiday. There is a 300 euros damages deposit.
