This lovely restored semi-detached cottage offers a delightful base from which to enjoy the pleasures of the Cotentin Penninsula. Situated on a quiet lane just 300m from the edge of St. Saveur Forest, which is the perfect spot for walking, bird watching, gathering mushrooms and just relaxing. The large comfortable salon with log burner is tastefully furnished with comfortable seating and some antique furniture. Full entertainment facilities for when you just want to sit and chill out.The kitchen/diner is spacious and well-equipped Upstairs comprises 1 family bathroom, 2 double bedrooms and a very large master bedroom - The Chamber of Secrets - housing a genuine confessional box - the rest we leave to your imagination! The room has a magnificent oak bed for all who enjoy delusions of grandeur! The en-suite facilities are completed by an attractivel slipper bath which sits in the corner of the room behind a screen. A tiny Juliette balcony overlooks the garden.

Notes on prices
A security deposit of £150.00. is required which will be refunded at the end of your stay if everything is left in good repair.On departure please leave the property in the condition in which you found it, failure to do so will result in an extra charge for cleaning which will be taken from the security deposit.

Out of season we are sometimes able to make arrangements for short term breaks at prices to be negotiated.

Changeover day
Our usual changeover day is Saturday to Saturday but out of season this can be flexible. Arrival time is after 4pm in order that the cottage can be prepared for you and departure must be by 10.30am.

Bedrooms: Master bedroom - The Chamber of Secrets very large as previously described with double oak french bed.
Bedroom 2 with double bed, dressing table, bedside tables and wardrobe.
Bedroom 3 with double bed, dressing table bedside table.
Bathrooms: En-suite bathroom to the Chamber of Secrets with period slipper bath. Toilet and vanity area (handbasin) housed in Confessional!
Separate family bathroom with full size bath with shower over. Toilet. and heated towel rail.
Separate downstairs toilet.
Kitchen: The well equipped kitchen is very spacious with a large table seating 10. There is a large range cooker ( butane gas) with 5-ring hob. Large larder fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker. Comfy armchair whilst waiting for dinner to cook!
Utility Room: There is a small utility area which contains a large washing machine plus a tumble dryer.
Living Rooms: Large living room with double Edwardian style sofa, 2 armchairs Desk under window, internet access, wall to wall bookcases. Lamps, side tables, Satellite TV with English channels, DVD player, music centre. Lovely fireplace with log burner.
Other: The large, dining table seats up to 10 people and you have everything you need for preparing the family banquet!

The living room also contains a large number of books, films and music.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
All bed linen, towels, tea towels are included in the prices (discount if own are provided). The cottage is prepared prior to every let but we would expect guests to leave it as they find it. Additional cleaning service is available at a cost of £40.

Notes on accommodation
There are electric convector heaters throughout the property and a log burner in the sitting room. Logs and electricity are included in the rental price. We also provide a stylish butane gas heater for those extra chilly evenings but ask guests to take responsibility for refilling bottles. The cottage has been furnished and decorated to a standard where it can be used as a permanent home therefore it may not be ideal for very young children. Whilst pets are welcome (we love them) we would like them to be well behaved and not be allowed to sit on the furniture! Unfortunately, we would have to make a charge for any damage done. Please leave the property in the condition in which you found it, failure to do so will result in an extra charge for cleaning which will be taken from the security deposit.

Accessibility
The downstairs of the property is accessible for wheelchairs and there is also a downstairs toilet. The front of the property is shingled so possibly not ideal for wheelchair users. The staircase is not too steep and should not be a problem for people with minor mobility problems to negotiate. It is easy to park directly in front of the entrance door.

Outside
The garden is to the front and side of the property and is planted with fruit trees. There is a small gazebo in the garden for those quiet times in which to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the world go by. There is a garden table, chairs, sun umbrella and BBQ. The garden leads on to a lane which, in turn, leads to the forest and Mont Besneville. These are only a few hundred yards away giving you plenty of open spaces to roam. The garden is not enclosed by fencing so children and dogs could wander onto the lane (very quiet) if not supervised.

Coast/Beach
The beaches along the Cotentin Penninsula are stunning with plenty of space even in high summer. The nearest beach, Portbail, is a 10 min drive by car. The beach at Carteret is perfect for children with miles of sandy beach and rock pools.
Try any of the numerous side roads to the west coast and there will always be another glorious beach to surprise you.
This beautiful coastline varies from chalk cliffs in the east to huge sandy beaches in the west.

Golf
There are 3 courses all within 15-30 mins. 9 holes at Brix and St. Germain and 18 holes at Omaha Beach

Travel
If travelling with Brittany Ferries, TransManche or Irish Ferries we have a contact who may be able to offer substantial discounts on ferry fares. (Information only available if booking Maison du Marais). The cottage is a 40 min drive from the port of Cherbourg. Le Havre (LD Lines) is a two and a half hour drive. Caen one and a half hours. Use of a car is recommended although the nearest towns and villages can be accessed by cycle, or on foot if you enjoy a good walk.

Distances
The cottage is in easy reach by car of Cite de la Mer, the coast, Bayeaux and all the historic landing beaches.

The nearest town is St. Saveur which offers good facilities for shopping.

Further details
There is a butcher, baker and general store in the village which is a few mins drive over the top of Mount Besneville or a 25 min walk. The supermarket and general shops banks and restaurants of St. Saveur and Portbail are 10 mins away by car.
A "Train Touristique" runs from 27 June to 5 September on Tuesdays and Thursday (market days) between the towns of Portbail and Barneville-Carteret. Both towns have sailing schools that also offer sand-yachting and boats and yachts for hire. Carteret has some very chic shops and excellent restaurants. St. Jean de la Riviere has a riding school. A tree adventure park offers a fun afternoon out for children of all ages. Delightful French markets can be found on every day of the week. In the summer season there are usually day trips available to the Channel Islands - from either Portbail or Barneville-Carteret.

Many of Normandy's tourist attractions are within easy reach by car, Coutances ancient town & cathedral - 40mins, Bayeux tapestry - 55 mins, Cherbourg hypermarkets & Cite de la Mer- 35mins, Granville boutiques & marina - 60 mins, Mont St. Michel town & monastery - 100 mins, Hambye Abbey - 40 mins, Barfleur romantic fishing port - 40 mins, Cap de la Hague stunning cliffs - 40 mins, Barneville Carteret & Portbail quaint coastal resorts and gateways to Jersey - 10 mins and the D-day beaches, Utah Beach war museums & cemeteries -30 mins
Throughout the year there are numerous flea markets, antique fairs, village fetes and music festivals in the area, including the famous Lessay Agricultural Fair on the first weekend of September and the Coutances Jazz Festival in May.
The Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Nature Park, ideal for walking, cycling, bird watching and other outdoor pursuits.

Booking notes
A 25% deposit is required to secure your reservation which should be forwarded with our booking form within 7 days. The deposit is non-refundable and we would strongly recommend that you take out appropriate holiday insurance with a cancellation clause which may enable you to recover non refundable monies. Balance payable six weeks before commencement of rental period plus a security deposit of £l50. refundable at the end if all is left in good order. Discount for provision of own linen.
