Morzine is an attractive old French town at the heart of the largest ski area in the French Alps, the Portes de Soleil. There is skiing for all ages and abilities and there is almost no need to ski the same run twice during a week's stay. The apartment is on the third floor of the Major, a spacious apartment block, and it is one of the few locations you can ski back to when the snow is in the town. The apartment is out of the main hubbub of the town, but ski lifts, shops, restaurants and bars are all within very easy reach on foot. A navette bus stops right outside the door. Parking is on private ground just outside. All the rooms have balconies, and you have an unmatched view of the mountains from them and from the bedrooms and sitting room. Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday, and clients are asked to leave by 10am to allow time for cleaning. Clients can arrive any time after 5pm and will be greeted by Sarah, who looks after the keys and the cleaning for us, and deals with any problems.

Bathrooms: Bathroom with bath/shower over, basin, washing machine.

Kitchen: Compact kitchen just off the sitting room (so that the cook is not excluded!) with electric oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave, Magimix, coffee percolator and generous supplies of saucepans, dishes, cooking implements, china and cutlery.
Living Rooms: Sitting room with huge picture windows looking out over the Pleney ski runs and lifts, to the mountains above Les Mines D'Or, and to Avoriaz. Three sofas and an easy chair, a dining table and 8 chairs. TV, DVD, video, guides and board games.
Other: Generous entrance hall with hanging for coats, jackets and places for ski boots. Lockable ski locker on the ground floor.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Towels and linen (changed once a week) are included and the property is cleaned once a week.

 

Notes on accommodation
Our apartment is equipped for family use and is therefore very comfortable and cosy. It is spacious and recently completely renovated. It is highly suitable for two couples or a family. Self catering is easy in the well equipped kitchen, and there are several supermarkets nearby, and some delicious delicatessen shops. Alternatively there are lots of restaurants to suit all prices. We give you full notes on all the amenities on offer in Morzine.

Accessibility
The apartment is on the third floor and is not suitable for those with mobility problems.

Outside
There are chairs for sitting on the balconies and outside, children can build snowmen.

Skiing
It is possible to walk to both the main Morzine lifts (you can easily do without a car in Morzine). Le Pleney is about 7 minutes walk maximum and you can ski back into Le Major on your return. Super Morzine is about 8 minutes away, linked to Pleney by a little train. From these lifts you can ski to Les Gets, or Avoriaz, Chatel, Champery, Morgins and all over the Portes de Soleil. The ski schools are close by and there are plenty of choices for all levels of skiers, including very small children. There is skiing for al levels of skiers and boarders, all over the huge Portes de Soleil ski area, which covers not only the French runs but also runs in Switzerland too. Cross country skiers will find plenty of wonderful runs through woodland, both pisted and wild as nature intended. For skiers who like their creature comforts there are lots of mountain restaurants serving delectable Savoyard food. Non skiers can find plenty to do, including wonderful walks and enticing shops and markets.

Travel
You can drive to Morzine easily, and it takes about 8 hours from Calais on the autoroutes. Alternatively fly to Geneva and hire a car there, or order a taxi from Morzine to meet you (we can provide details). The drive to Morzine takes about 1 hour from the airport.

Distances
There are a number of pretty villages within 5 miles of Morzine, including Montriond, Les Gets, St Jean d'Aulps. Further afield (about 50 mintes) are Evian and Thonon on Lake Geneva, and Geneva itself. Annecy is about 2 hours drive. Other ski resorts (Chamonix, Argentiere, La Clusaz, Megeve, Samoens, Flaine) are all within reach for day skiing.

Further details
There is a skating rink in the sports centre, with a separate small rink for tiny children, a playground and lovely walks through the woods by running rivers. There is a free local bus service which stops right outside the door which will take you to ski, to the shops and banks, the weekly market and to restaurants. For non-skiers there are some good walks.

To book Le Major, contact the owner via email or telephone to confirm dates and rental prices. I will send you a booking form and the terms and conditions, and will hold the apartment for you for 5 days. A deposit of one third of the rent is payable with the booking, and the remainder 10 weeks before arrival.
