The house is completely secluded and located on the outskirts of the village. It has been adapted from a 200 year old brickworks and still has the circular chimney. French windows give access to the large garden and surround the pool. The house has a large living room, dining area and terrace. There is secure parking for 2 cars. It is only a few minutes from the village with its market, shop, pharmacy, health centre, boulangeries, butcher, La Poste, bars and restaurants. St Quentin is a pretty village with cobbled streets and is a centre for pottery making. As well as an exhibition centre there are many potters with displays in the village and there is a 'pot market' in Uzes (3km) each Saturday. Apart from the medieval town of Uzes it is close to Pont du Gard, Avignon, Nimes, Ardeche, Camargue and the coast. The area provides something for everyone - tennis, golf, swimming, walking, canoing, cycling (rental in the village) and wonderful gorge scenery.

Notes on accommodation
There is effective gas central heating. The property is well furnished and equipped. It is tiled throughout and can be slippery if feet or shoes are wet. It has many full length glass doors which may appear to be open and can be a danger if children (or adults) run/walk into them. The main house is cool, but there are 4 fans if needed in summer. The swimming pool is one depth only greater than standing height for adults. There is a security lock out of reach of children, but the surrounding doors must also be locked if you have young children.
New additions - an iGroove for digital audio use of your own iPods or equivalent, a 1/4 size snooker table with cues and balls for pool or snooker (and rules to avoid arguments!) and a baby 'cot' suitable for up to 6 month old babies. People who have stayed say the pictures do not do justice to the house, but its odd shape makes it difficult to capture how relaxing it is.

Accessibility
There are steps into bedroom 3 but otherwise the house is on one level with some slight slopes so it is accessible for people with mobility difficulties.
However access from the drive to the garden is up shallow 'log' type steps where assistance may be needed.

Outside
There is a large, completely enclosed and secluded mainly grassed garden which surrounds the private pool (38 sq.m). The pool is not heated but there are floats and balls to play with, a light for use at night and a wave machine to help take more exercise. The doors around the pool and the dining area open fully giving 'patio' access to the garden. There is a large BBQ for you to use. There are four comfortable loungers, 2 deckchairs and small tables for use in the garden. The terasse has double doors opening onto the garden, making it easy to relax in the sun, shade or just inside.

Coast/Beach
It is a little over an hour to drive to the nearest coast - including Grau de Roi, L’Espiguette, Les Saintes Maries de Mer, and La Grande Motte which all have beaches. Better known resorts of Cannes and Nice are manageable for a day trip.
There is safe swimming in local rivers with information available when a booking is made.

Golf
There is a Golf course near Uzes. Information on costs and availability can be found in the village information centre.

Travel
Trains - Eurostar and TGV from London to Avignon and Nimes.
The easiest flights are to Nimes (Ryanair from Liverpool, Gatwick, Stansted, and Luton) and 45 mins by car (45km) or to Montpelier (about 1 1/4 hours drive). But there are also flights from Edinburgh, Leeds/Bradford and Southampton, and from other airlines to Montpelier, Avignon and Marseille. Driving is 640 miles from Calais almost all on the autoroute.

Distances
Uzes (3km) is a jewel of a medieval town, Nimes, a Roman town, is 30 mins drive. Arles, also Roman, is 60 mins drive. Pont du Gard, the famous bridge and swimming and canoeing is 20 mins away. Collias for rafting and canoeing, is 20 mins. Other places near are: The walled town of Aigues Mortes in the Camargue, Avignon, the capital of the Cotes du Rhone wine-growing, 45 mins away. The Cevennes, for walking and river swimming. The Ardeche swimming and canoeing and Marseille 1hour driving time.

The village has a small Carrefour for all groceries and there is a market on Friday mornings with local foods on sale. In the village there are 3 bars (2 serving food Le Marina and Bar du Marche), 2 restaurants (1 in the hotel Les Clos des Pradines), and Delice des Anges, a cafe (in the boulangerie) a Poste and a Presse selling English papers and 2 other boulangeries. There is a cash machine next to the Tourist Information Office in the market place. The local Cave Co-operative sells an excellent range of local (good) wines, some very cheaply. Some of the potters display their goods in an Exhibition Centre and there is a small museum of pottery making. In July and August there are village festivals (see St Quentin web for details of dates and events). There are tennis courts and cycle rental a few minutes walk from the house. At Uzes there are markets twice a week, with bars and restaurants around the market area (Place aux Herbes) 3 internet cafes, many other bars and restaurants, banks and access to all leisure interests. There is an Information Centre in the village and at Uzes and these will give details of local music events through the year in Uzes and neighbouring villages. The area is full of mediaval castles and villages. It is a wine growing area not far from Chateauneuf du Pape and other major Rhone wines. Recently footpaths are better marked in the whole area giving walks of varying distances nearby.

Guest comments
"We had a really lovely time. It was a great opportunity for us to explore a new and very beautiful area of France. Some of the places we visited, obviously Nimes, Uzes and its wonderful market, Pont du Gard, Vaison la Romaire, Chateauneuf de Pape for wine tasting."
Just wanted to say what a lovely property you have and how much we enjoyed
our stay. Over many years of travelling in France, I do not think we have
ever been to such a well equipped house.
"We loved the house, location and region."
"Delightful, unusual house, very well appointed."
"Great holiday and accommodation."
"Your instruction book is well written and is extremely helpful."

Owner profile

About the owner
We are a professional couple approaching retirement with two grown up children who live in London. We have always loved France and spent many holidays there. When we were left a bit of money we bought the house in St Quentin la Poterie, so we can stay there more as we get older.

Year purchased: 2006

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We chose the area in France very carefully as we wanted to be where there are places to visit that we would never tire of (Pont du Gard, Avignon etc) but also so much to do that we continue to find new places to explore. The village is unusual with narrow streets and the many pottery shops; Uzes nearby is stunning. Sitting in the square with a glass of wine is heaven; the market never fails to offer something new to buy.

Unique benefits of the property
We have furnished the house to ensure there is all you need for a relaxing stay. it is only a few minutes from the main village, with good shops, boulangeries, boucherie and a little supermarket. There is a wine co-operative in the village selling local wines (especially rose) and good prices. It gets very hot in summer, but the pool provides a welcome cool splash and the garden is secluded and quiet. We often move the light table outside for meals especially BBQs.
