The property is in a secluded garden with a pool, terrace with barbecue, large teak table and chairs/parasol. Wheelchair access downstairs. Central heating and woodburner. Situated 10km south west of Pontivy, 40km north of Vannes and 110km from Rennes, Quelven is ideally located in the heart of Brittany. It is a hamlet with ancient houses, a creperie and a cafe/pizza.The organ in the church has been restored and features in the music festival. The village of Guern is 5 mins away by car and has a boulangerie/general store. Supermarkets and wonderful food shops can be found in Pontivy 12 minutes away which has a wide selection of local produce, restaurants and a market. The property is within close proximity of a riding school, golf course, walking trails,fishing and the river Blavet where canoeing, boat trips, cycling along the towpath can be enjoyed. The house is located 45 mins drive from the beaches near Vannes & from Lac de Guerledan where a full range of watersports are available.

Notes on accommodation
The house is ideal for between 2 and 8 people and is suitable for winter breaks due to the mild climate and cosy accommodation.
The spring and autumn are warmer than in England and the countryside is beautiful.
Accessibility
All of the ground floor including the bedroom, en suite bathroom,the kitchen and living room have been specially adapted to offer complete wheelchair access. The terrace is level at one end with the lawn .The first floor is not accessible to wheelchair users.
The bathroom (wetroom) was designed for wheelchair use and a bathroom wheelchair and a hoist are available on request.
The bedroom is spacious and French doors give access to a private part of the terrace.
Outside
The secluded garden approx 1200 sq.m.is in the English style, with a lawned area, flowering shrubs and borders, pots and a hammock hanging between 2 birch trees.
The barbecue can be wheeled where wanted. A large teak table with armchairs, chairs and a parasol are on the terrace, under a trained wisteria.
A smaller table and 6 sunloungers are situated by an alarmed private pool (7m/5m) under another large umbrella. The pool has a gate and is enclosed by a box hedge. Covered parking for 2 cars. A pair of large wrought iron gates open on a gravelled drive towards the poolhouse into the garden.
Coast/Beach
Erdeven near Carnac is 50 mins by car. It is between Vannes and Lorient and close to the famous port of Trinite sur Mer where Ellen Mc Arthur keeps her trimaran. The beaches are sloping sands.
Or the Plage Coral on the Lac de Guerledan, 40 mins away, has artificial sand beaches ideal for watersports and waterskiing. It is a favourite with children and parents who enjoy eating at the restaurant on the beach named Merlin.
At St. Nicolas des Eaux, 15 mins from the house, you can hire cayacks.
Golf
The golf course at Rimaison has 9 holes and is less than 10 minutes away. Its location is near the river Blavet, an area of outstanding beauty.
Travel
The nearest airport is Rennes 1h 20 by car,then Dinard 1h40. Brest is 2h away. Use Flybe, Easyjet and Ryanair.
The port of St Malo is 1 hour 45 minutes away, Roscoff 1 hour 40 or Caen 4h 30. Brittany Ferries is very reliable and offers you a comfortable and enjoyable crossing. Use of a car is essential and car rental is widely available at ports and airports.
Budget flights to Rennes, Lorient, Dinard & Brest are now available.
From London, take Eurostar to Paris, then the TGV to Rennes
Distances
Nearest village is Guern, 5 mins with a Post Office, bakery/village shop and bars. Pontivy, 10 mins has a hospital, restaurants, and the feel of a provincial town.Josselin with its famous castle and market is 30 mins. Vannes has great shops, restaurants, markets and is more sophisticated. Quimper, 2 hours, is worth a visit as well as Pont-Aven so are the horses at Hennebont on the way. Closer, 10 mins, St Nicolas des Eaux has a bridge over the Blavet, a towpath and restaurants by the river.
Further details
The local area has a wealth of historic features. The fountain(spring) at Quelven has Roman as well as medieval remains. The statues in the church date from the 13th century and the tower is 70m high rebuilt in the 15th century.
The Auberge de Quelven is famous for its pancakes and Monsieur Bolle will welcome and help anyone from Pierrelou.
Francis at the Cafe des Anges cooks my favourite pizzas and will prepare some to take home if wanted.
My house book contains the name of the restaurants and shops which have been appreciated by all.
There is a very good supermarket our side of Pontivy called Intermarche.My bank in Pontivy is the Credit Mutuel de Bretagne and some of their staff speak English.
The English couple who look after the house and you are very helpful and live in the village.
