|
Our property is a little over 5 minutes outside the medieval village of Seillans. It is situated on 2.6 acres of olive groves. Secluded, but not isolated, the aspect from the 2 main terraces is of unblemished forest, with mountains in the distance. There are 2 houses: an eigtheenth century completely modernised farmhouse sleeping 8 and a cottage sleeping 4. From early June to September the property has to be taken as a whole, at other times the main house can be rented on its own with the cottage as an optional extra. One side of the large swimming pool terrace is well shaded by mature willow trees. The second main terrace runs alongside the newly built and well-fitted summer kitchen. Seillans is a quite beautiful village extremely well situated for visiting the perched villages of the Var, the mountains behind and the whole of the Riviera. Nice airport is less than 50 mins away, you can get to Cannes in 40 mins and to the nearest beach, at Frejus, in 30 mins.

Otherwise arrival and departure times, dates are negotiable.
Notes on accommodation
Both houses have mounted electric heaters for Autumn and Winter rentals. There are fans for the summer in all bedrooms.
There is an utility room is on the side of the summer kitchen which contains a washer, a dryer and a third fridge which we use for water, juices, beer, wine, ice cream and so on which allows lots of room for food in the other 2 fridges. A microwave oven is also situated in the utility room.
Car parking is excellent on the property and a car is a necessity as we are outside the village, a little over 8 minutes.
Accessibility
It is not ideal for wheelchairs as the property is on slopes.
It is excellent for children with wide open areas for ball games with a swing, slide and see-saw.
By French law there is a swimming pool alarm which should be kept on when no one is in the pool.
Outside
The swimming pool is large, 11m x 6m and is situated on a terrace just below the kitchen door of the main house. There are 10 sun loungers and mattresses with a number of chairs and several tables. One side of the terrace is shaded by 3 large willow trees, from the whole level there is a sweeping view down sloping lawns, over ancient forest and onto mountains in the distance.
We have a sun blanket which warms the pool naturally at the beginning and end of the swimming season, the blanket is not neccessary in the summer months.
The newly built summer kitchen is on its own terrace on the other side of the main house from the swimming pool. From 1 side you look back towards the swimming pool, from the other you have a different view of forest and mountains.
A few short steps lead up to the boule court. With wonderful views in every direction the best time to play is as the sun gradually sets, the stone wide wall ideal for resting your glass of something chilled.
Coast/Beach
The whole of the Riviera is very accessible from Seillans, the closest beach is at Frejus which is about 35 minutes away.
The beaches of Cannes perhaps 45 minutes, a bit further to the ones in Nice. The delightful beach at Theoule-sur-Mer is about 40 mins.
St. Tropez can be reached in a little over an hour, but not in the high season! One way to beat the summer traffic into town is to drive to drive to St. Raphael and then take the ferry across the bay to St. Tropez, about 15 minutes.
Golf
There are a number of excellent golf courses over the whole area. The nearest is the newly built Terre Blanche with 2 international standard 18-hole courses designed by Dave Thomas; it has derived from an original concept of Sean Connery who first bought the land in 1979. There is a David Leadbetter Academy there. The 5 star hotel is part of the Four Seasons group, it has a Michelin starred restaurant under the supervision of Philippe Jourdin previously at the Tour d'Argent and the Moulin de Mougins (France) +33 494393693.
The wide terrace bar has a long list of cocktails available from all over the world, the view from there up to the perched villages is simply magnificent.
Other nearby courses include the Domaine de St. Endreol at La Motte (France) +33 494992299 and Golf de l'Esterel overlooking the beaches and coast at Saint-Raphael (France) +33 494446358.
Skiing
Isola 2000 is 2 hours drive away (it is 2 hours from the coast so it is technically possible to ski in the Alps in the morning and swim in the Mediterranean in the afternoon!). At 2000m the season is approximately December to April.
A smaller ski station is at Grolieres-les-Neiges, 50km north of Grasse it is about 1.5 hours' drive. With good learning slopes it is popular with local schools, it is lower than Isola and with, therefore, a shorter season: mid to late December into March.
Travel
Our nearest international airport is Nice, the drive takes under an hour using the A8 perhaps 15 mins longer if you take the scenic route via Grasse.
The airport at Marseilles is 2 hours drive away, the 1 at Toulon 1.5 hours.
Averaging reported driving times over the years from friends and guests would give 11 to 12 hours driving from Calais for those wanting to come in their own cars and see more of France.
A car is essential to enjoy the best of the beautiful and varied area.

Further details
Seillans is a magical medieval village with its own group of shops: boulangerie, butcher, newsagent (a wide choice of international newspapers), a good sized supermarket and a choice of good restaurants. These range from family pizzerias to the Deux Rocs at the top of the village with wonderful panoramic views to the Relais d'Olea whose chef-proprietor, Hermance Caro is the daughter of the Michelin-starred Alain Caro of the Castelleras restaurant down the road towards Fayence.
As you would expect the whole area is full of excellent places to eat for every budget, we provide a thorough list for our guests.
Local markets are frequent, the farmers' market at Tourettes is open every day except Mondays in the season. All the produce has a tag identifying the grower and his village! We have a number of vineyards in the area, the award-winning Val d'Iris is 5 minutes away from our property as is the historic and welcoming Chateau des Selves.
All the large supermarket chains have stores within 15-20 minutes. The nearest one after Seillans is at the bottom of the hill to Fayence, Super U, famed for its great variety of breads baked on the premises.
Sporting activities are readily available: golf, tennis, riding, gliding, walking and so on. A great fun alternative to swimming at the house or going to the Mediterranean is to have have a day at the Lac St. Cassien, hardly 30 minutes away and not crowded even on warm summer's days. There is a good choice of cafes, all with pedalos and canoes to hire. You can easily access a deserted place for your own picnic if you prefer.
