Coast/Beach
Waterparks with sandy beaches, pedaloes, jet skis, cafes and restaurants are becoming more popular in our area. Our favourite at Lac de Cadie is only 5 mins away by car.
90 mins in the car will get you to the endless silver beaches of the Atlantic coast, the mighty Dune de Pyla, Europe's highest, and the delightful bay of Arcachon.

We have several golf courses in the region and the nearest and best is the prestigious course at Chateau de Vigiers, a beautiful setting amongst the vineyards.

Our background is in wine so we would be delighted to make appointments for you to visit a chateau. Our favourite is Chateau de la Riviere, a true fairytale castle with wondrous cellars that stretch for miles under the chateau and vineyards.

Castillon La Bataille, famous for its battle which ended the Hundred Years War in 1453 is 10 mins by car and has a typically French street market, good food shops, banks, pharmacy, doctors, several supermarkets and good restaurants. Saint Emilion is a truly stunning medieval village. You will love its narrow cobbled streets, towers, churches and superb range of wine shops, as well as some great places to eat. Bordeaux has a brilliant new tramway system which makes it a must for shopping, art galleries, museums, great architecture and exciting riverside summer festivals. For a little activity you can use our small fleet of bikes around the quiet country lanes, fish on the River Dordogne, or hire canoes for a gentle paddle downstream. Buzz around Lac de Cadie on jet skis or follow the Pierre Loti vineyard walk.

We have enjoyed the two weeks in your gite enormously. We have had a really relaxing time, the setting is beautiful and the gite really well equipped.

We had a fantastic holiday-thanks so much. Hope to do it again sometime in the future.

Owner profile

About the owner
My wife Gail and I had idyllic holidays here as our children grew up, canoeing and fishing on the River Dordogne, spending lazy days on the beaches at Arcachon and basking in the warm summer evenings as tasty beef steaks grilled on the barbecue. We get a real thrill helping our guests get the best from their stay here in our corner of La Belle France. Whether it be arranging a visit to Chateau de la Riviere for a tour and tasting of their luscious wines, or organising a gentle paddle down the River Dordogne in a canoe. When our guests are happy we are happy.

Year purchased: 1980's

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We love wine and just feel happy being so close to the vineyards of Saint Emilion, but also our local wine which is less well known but goes down a treat. But there isn't just the wine, there are great markets, days out on the fabulous beaches of the Atlantic, really quaint towns and villages to explore, and when we want the buzz of the city, we can be in cosmopolitan Bordeaux in less than an hour.

Unique benefits of the property
Our guests love the pool and garden which has lots of hidden corners and exotic plants like giant banana palms. Though we are in a small hamlet, there is somewhere to see and explore for every day of the week and six good restaurants all within 10 minutes drive, including our local which is only 5 minutes walk.
