Holiday Cottage in Cognac, Charente Maritime, Poitou-Charentes, France
Cottage with Pool
Peaceful Location Amongst the Vines
Sleeps 4 (2 Bedroom)
|
|
Originally built in 1836, Bois Blanc was a Cognac producer's house and is set, away from busy roads, in the Grand Champagne region of the Cognac vineyards. It is now owned by an English couple who are renovating the main house and barns. There are no immediate neighbours and the cottage, which is set in its own gardens, is not overlooked by the owners who live in the main house. The large pool has just been completed in August 2007. The cottage has been furnished to a very high standard - take a look at the photos or visit our website.

Notes on accommodation
Please be aware that the mezzanine area could be dangerous for small children and toddlers. We can supply a cot, bedding and highchair on request.
Accessibility
Sorry, the cottage is accessed by small winding paths which wouldn't be suitable for a wheelchair. However, if you could get to the cottage, once inside the downstairs bedroom and wetroom would be suitable for people with mobility problems. We are not experts - please email or phone if you want to ask specific questions.
Outside
The cottage has 2 private terraces - North and South so there is usually a choice of sunshine or shade (if the sun's out of course!). There is a dining table and chairs and 2 sun loungers. The pool is 12m x 6m, making a L-shape with the steps which are 4m x 4m. There is also a BBQ.
Coast/Beach
About 50 mins drive from the coast. You can explore the Gironde estuary, the beaches around Royan, La Palmyre and the Cote Sauvage. The Ile de Ré and the Ile d'Oleron are close enough to make a day trip. All the beaches are sandy and it's easy to find secluded spots.
Special interest holidays
If you have an interest in cognac, we can arrange visits to some of the smaller producers as well as the larger cognac houses. If you are visiting over the November to January period, there would be the opportunity to see the distillation process carried out on traditional stills. Please email us if you want us to arrange this for you or to put together a cognac lover's package including lots of visits and tastings.
Travel
Nearest airports - La Rochelle (1 and a half hour's drive), Angouleme, (1 hour), Bordeaux, (1 hour 10 mins), Poitiers (2 hours). Due to the isolated location a car is quite important, but not essential if you just want to chill out here and not go anywhere. We can arrange pick up from a station or airport (at an additional cost).
Distances
Nearest village is 3km with small shop, post office, bar, cafe (it's all in one!). Cognac is the nearest town, about 15km away. There are lots of Cognac houses to visit, including the small producers which we can arrange for you. Cognac has lots of festivals and events throughout the year. Contact us if you want to know if anything is going on when you visit.
Further details
There are lots of off road tracks through the vines which are great for cycling or riding. We can arrange for stabling of your horse here.
