Notes on accommodation
We are ideal for large family groups or friends, especially if you take Brio and La Terrasse together when we open up the whole chalet, but we are just as happy to welcome people for shorter stays out of the peak holiday periods, and for people to book a room rather than the whole chalet. All towels and linen are provided, together with down duvets and cotton sheets. The chalet is cleaned daily if catered and at the end of stay if self catered. Chalet hosts live in a separate apartment within the chalet, and are ususally on hand to help out.

Accessibility
The accommodation in Chalet Brio is over three floors and is not suitable for guests who find it difficult to use the stairs, but La Terrasse is on the ground floor and with extra wide doorways is suitable for wheelchair access to the living, bedroom and bathroom areas. There is plenty of car parking space, and ramps to the path.

Outside
The large gardens extend all around the chalet and up the hillside with lovely views in all four directions, ideal for bird watching and enjoying the wildlife. In summer you can find a shady spot under the trees or lounge on the decking and enjoy the sun by the pool. There is plenty of space for games, barbecues and relaxation and a range of outdoor furniture is provided. La Terrasse has its own south facing private garden with a shaded terrace, eating area and pergola. The fabulous heated swimming pool (10m x 5m) is for the use in summer of all guests in the chalet. In winter make your own toboggan runs and ski jumps in the large back garden.

Golf
There are several golf courses to choose from, competition standard at Evian, about an hour away and alpine courses at Les Gets (20 mins) and Flaine (30 mins).

Skiing
Within an hours drive from Geneva, Samoens and Morillon are both part of the Grand Massif ski area with excellent links to Les Carroz and Flaine. The skiing extends over 265km of varied pistes with something for all abilities. There is a choice of excellent ski schools at either Samoens or Morillon, and a full range of creche and child care facilities. Those who like to ski back at the end of the day can do so, conditions permitting, down to Morillon or Vercland, a mile away. We provide a daily run to the lifts and back for catered guests and there is also a free ski bus 150m from the chalet. Ski equipment can be hired and then left at the top of the lifts, saving you from carrying it back. If you take a six day pass this also entitles you to ski for one day in nearby Morzine or Les Gets. For non skiers snow shoe and cross country trails extend through the valley and up to the mountain summits, guiding is available for both. In Samoens itself there also is a 600sq.m ice rink.

Special interest holidays
Walking courses can be arranged at most times of the year, the chalet is also ideal for groups of road cyclists

Travel
Travel options include driving via Rheims and Dijon and the journey from the French ports takes 8 -10 hours depending on speed and stops. Or many people prefer to fly into Geneva and pick up a hire car for the easy journey to the resort which should take between 1 to 1.5 hours. Having a car in summer is recommended as it gives you greater flexibility, but for non drivers taking the catered option in winter we operate a minibus service and the chalet is on the ski bus route.

Distances
The hamlet of L'Etelley is approx 2km from Samoens town centre and even closer to the main telecabine which is on the outskirts of the resort. It takes just a couple of minutes to drive or on the ski bus and there is plenty of parking. Morillon is even closer in the other direction. The resorts of Les Gets and Morzine are about 20-25km away.

Further details
Both Samoens and Morillon have a good range of shops, bars and restaurants although Samoens has the greater choice. Banks and cash machines are available in both. The historic town of Annecy is well worth a visit and is about an hour away, as is Chamonix.
There are lovely walks along the river banks, through the small hamlets along the valley and up the hillsides. Or enjoy a cake and hot chocolate in one of the best patisseries in the area and watch the world go by.

Guest comments
That little bit of paradise we discovered last summer has fully lived up to its' reputation for skiing, loved it so much we can't wait to get back. Nigel, Libby and Ben Feb 2010.

What a wonderful chalet, it certainly has the wow factor, we have been well looked after by exceptional hosts and had the best of both worlds, skiing and sunbathing. Rachel, Rupert and families April 2010.

This chalet is so nice, the 2 weeks has gone even quicker than last year, I love it here so much. Adam, August 2010.

Owner profile

The team

About the owner
A love for the mountains and fresh air drew us to this wonderful part of the world. Both professional people we gave up our jobs in the UK and set up home in the Haute Savoie. We found a great plot and with the help of a local architect built Chalet Brio. There is so much going on around Samoens both summer and winter, the social life is very good and we have made many friends, both French and English. We love meeting new people so running a chalet is ideal. We have two children, now snow board instructors and both working in far off parts of the world. Who knows, they may both join us one day.

Year purchased: 2008

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The resort has very easy access and is just an hours drive from Geneva which makes it perfect for quick trips back to the UK. It's part of the Grand Massif and this is a great ski area, and it is a vibrant, lived in, authentic, all year round community. Chalet Brio is on the outskirts of Samoens in a quiet hamlet, and we found a very large plot which gives us plenty of outdoor space, including room for an organic vegetable garden which provides some of the ingredients for our catered guests, the swimming pool and the geothermal heating system. It's a great location and close to all the ski lifts and local activities. We have wonderful views from our house out towards Mt Criou and beyond.

Unique benefits of the property
We spent a lot of time laying out the design of Chalet Brio. We wanted it to work very well for both us as our home and for every one staying here. It's light and spacious and open plan, with a log fire in the sitting area and wonderful views of Mt Criou. It feels cosy and comfortable whether there are just the two of us or a chalet full. The heating and hot water come from our underground geothermal system, which cuts our energy bills a great deal. The large outdoor swimming pool has proved to be very popular in summer and sitting in the hot tub in winter you look out across the meadows, sometimes the deer come down from the forest and pass by. We're surrounded by wild life, fields and trees.
