The house is very large with 5 reception rooms and 5 bedrooms. It is ideal for up to 10 people plus room for 2 cots. The bedrooms - 2 doubles & 3 twins are all well furnished, linen & towels supplied. The house dating from 1694, is full of period features and character. It has 3 large feature granite stone fireplaces with wood burners, exposed stone walls, original beams throughout. It has a large lounge, dinning room & kitchen diner + a 2nd living room on the 1st floor mezzanine - this can be used as a relaxation room for all the family. There is a large indoor games room with a pool table, baby football, PS2, UK TV, lots of games + a small fun bar area another great room for all the family. These facilities are available to all guests. The gardens are lawned & landscaped and cover over 1 acre. There is a professionally installed outdoor heated swimming pool - fully fenced & secure. The farmhouse is ideal for a large group or 2 families sharing.

Changeover day
Self catering changeover days in high season - June, July & August are Saturdays. Other months we are totally flexible. Short stay guests can choose any start or end date. Check-in time is from 4.30pm and check-out 10.30am.

Notes on accommodation
The house is very spacious and ideal for a large group or 2 families sharing. We provide stair gates for all staircases - top and bottom. There are 2 lounges, a dining room, sun room, kitchen/diner, games room, bathroom and 2 shower rooms, plus washbasins in 2 bedrooms so you will never run out of space! We can supply a fixed cot, travel cot, or folding bed for use in a parents room. There are 2 highchairs and a booster seat - all at no extra cost. We also have a baby bath and changing mat. The games room is ideal for adults and children with lots to occupy all ages. We provide books, magazines, board games, videos, DVDs and CD plus PlayStation and games for guests to use. The house has a private drive with safe parking for 6 cars. It is not overlooked by any other property - just a few cows and horses in neighbouring fields.
Accessibility
For wheelchair users the downstairs twin room can be converted to a single and has easy access to the shower room opposite. The doorways are wide and easy to negotiate. Grab rails are not in situ in the shower room however. The garden is landscaped and although undulating is on one level and manageable for wheelchairs and those with limited mobility.
Outside
The swimming pool is available from May 1 - October 1, fully maintained and heated up to 26 degrees. It is very safe for children and is fully fenced and lockable. It measures 8m by 4m and has 3 steps which lead into the pool. It then gently slopes to a depth of 6ftin the middle and has a safety ledge all the way round. Sun loungers with cushions, relaxers, garden tables, chairs, parasols and BBQ, are all provided. Outdoor games are available such as badminton, croquet, short tennis, croquet and swing ball. We also have 2 adult cycles and 3 children's for age 3-10. Please bring your own safety helmets.
Coast/Beach
The house is ideally situated for the coastline of both Normandy and Brittany - all within 30 mins drive.The famous Mont St Michel is 30 mins away and it is possible to have a guided walk across the sands at low tide. Horse riding is available on the beach plus micro light aircraft rides, wind and para gliding in high season. The beaches are well maintained and very clean and often not crowded as there are so many to choose from. Favourites are - Carolles, St Jean Le Thomas, Dinard and St Malo.
Golf
There are many golf courses all within about 1 hours drive at Dinard, St Malo and Granville plus others.

WW2 Battlefield Tours: For those interested in WW2 we can arrange battlefield tours and give details of all the battlefield sites and memorials within 1 hours drive.
Antiques Hunting: Anyone interested in antiques will find a wealth of places to buy collectables, bric a brac and brocante and many fairs during the Spring and Summer.
Travel
Flying. Dinard airport is only 1 hours drive about 70km with 2 flights per day and car hire. Ferries. St Malo is 1 hours drive. Caen is 1-2 hours drive. Le Havre is 2-3 hours drive. Dieppe is 4 hours drive. Boulogne and Calais are 4-5 hours drive. A car is essential, though travelling distances to all shops and tourist sites are easy.
Distances
The local village of Le Ferre which has a restaurant/bar/tabac and boulangerie is only 2 km, 20 mins walk or 3 mins drive.The larger town of St James is full of shops, bars, cafes, restaurants etc and is 5km away, a 5 minute drive. It has 2 supermarkets open every day including Sunday. Fougeres and Avranches are both medieval market towns with castles to visit plus lots of other facilities. Rennes is a large city with every kind of shop including a huge great new Ikea -only 1 hours drive.
Further details
There are many places to visit from zoos, museums, WW2 landing beaches, war cemeteries all within easy driving distance. The beaches and coastline of Brittany and Normandy are within 30 mins drive. There is a water park just 15 mins away. Beautiful botanical gardens are located about 5 mins drive away.
The nearby towns of St James and Fougeres have weekly street markets.
The area is re-nowed for horse riding and breeding and it is possible to arrange lessons and rides easily. It is possible to ride out on the beaches or through the lanes. A nearby farm breed shire horses and the young foals can be seen in the fields - cart rides are available at certain times of year.

A reservation can be held for 7 days without commitment. Bookings will be confirmed on receipt of a 25% deposit payable in GBP or Euros - Paypal also available. The balance is due 28 days before arrival. A £200 security deposit is required for self catering guests and is held against damages, return of the key and additional cleaning if required. B&B guests: A reservation can be held for 7 days. A 25% deposit is required for a confirmed booking. The balance can be paid in advance or on arrival.

About the owner
We have lived in France for the last 10 years. Most of the time we live at our other house in Normandy but have enjoyed a lot of free time at Chouette, especially when all the family come to visit.
We are very interested in the WW2 events that occurred in the region and have 3 wartime vehicles - a Willys Jeep, a Dodge Command and war time Harley Davidson motorcycle.
To complement your stay we can put you in touch with battlefield tour guides to offer interesting trips, or help you arrange your own as we have a wealth of information available.
We can also help with those of you who are house hunting in France as we have a close friend who is an estate agent in the area.

Le Ferre is a quiet, quaint village but not too far from the pretty market town of St James and only 15 mins from bustling Avranches and Fougeres.
The house is ideally situated for visiting all the tourist sites and beaches in both Normandy and Brittany. The world famous Mont St Michel is just 20 mins drive.
It is well located from all the ferry ports and the airport at Dinard. Just 1 hour 30 mins from the ports of St Malo, Caen and Cherbourg.
There is very easy access to the A84 motorway for getting to other regions of France easily.

The house is also suitable for those with mobility problems with wide doorways and a downstairs bedroom and shower room.
It is not overlooked by any other properties and the pool is very private.
When the property is rented for self catering the owners do not live on site but visit 3 times a week to maintain the gardens and swimming pool. We can offer mid week or mid stay cleaning if required for a small charge.
