The apartment is in a traditional Savoyard Chalet development built in 2006 around an authentic Savoyard farm. It brings together quality and refinement with bright and spacious living areas opening onto a wide balcony. Only 1 hour from Geneva airport, it is located at 1300m, surrounded by trees and bordered by a mountain stream. With direct access to the ski pistes via a flat 50m walk, it is also only a short walk to local bars, sport shops and restaurants. It faces west and in the summer has the sun in the evening until 8pm with spectacular mountain sun sets. The views from the lounge and dining room are splendid- looking across the valley to the cross country pistes and the charming old village. It is very comfortably furnished and beautifully finished with an authentic ‘mountain escape’ feel. In the summer The Tour de France regularly comes through. There is mountain biking, paragliding, pony trekking, climbing and swimming available locally and Lake Annecy is close by.

Accessibility

This property is not suitable for wheelchair users. There is a shallow ramp and 4 steps upto the access door to the chalet.
The apartment is then up a single spiral flight of carpetted steps.
Outside
The balcony is equipped with seating and table for 6 people and enjoys spectacular evening sunsets and views. The chalet is set in private and secluded grounds which have been landscaped and grassed.
Coast/Beach
There is a swimming pool at Le Grand-Bornand, with 3 pools, slide and safe toddler pool/area. Annecy Lake is 40 minutes drive, with plenty of facilities for swimming, sunbathing and watersports from both private and public beaches.
Golf
A tricky 9 hole golf course can be found on the valley floor 10 mins drive away. It is also accessible by bus. It is set in a beautiful location and offers a warm and friendly welcome to all levels of golfers. Half sets of clubs can be rented for 3 Euros, and the course is open until late November, snow dependant.
Skiing
Le Grand-Bornand is a long established alpine winter sports village which has preserved its character and traditions well. It has state of the art skiing facilities with modern high speed chairlifts and snow making on many pistes. Snowboarding is increasing popular in the resort with a purpose built snowpark, with jumps and halfpipes galore!
The skiing is well designed, fully linked and suitable for all levels of skiers. It is part of the Aravis area which links with La Clusaz and offers over 220km of downhill piste and 60km of cross country skiing. Beginners will find the gentle green runs a confidence building debut before graduating to blue runs and access to all areas of the resort.More advanced skiers have a good range of red runs a few of which are never bashed giving you the opportunity to try bumps and/or deep snow without having to leave the safety of a marked run. The three black runs in Chinaillon (and many in La Clusaz) are seriously steep and pose a challenge to most.
Travel
Geneva airport, with its regular scheduled flights (EasyJet, BMI) is just 60km away. Car hire is not essential in high season, as it is easy to get a taxi/bus to Chinaillon and we provide a Carte D'Hote which gives you free local bus transport. We can arrange collection/return to Geneva airport at reasonable prices. In low season there is less public transport available (and fewer shops open), therefore a car would be desireable. Drive time from Calais is approx 8 hours or TGV to Annecy.
Distances
Le Grand Bornand 10 minutes.
Chamonix/Mont Blanc 60 minutes.
La Clusaz 15 minutes.
Annecy 40 minutes.
Geneva 60 minutes.
Megeve 60 mins.
Lyon 90 mins.
Further details
A good range of local craft shops, bars and restaurants exist in the village alongside 2 boulangeries, a salon de The, a supermarket, a pharmacy and numerous ski shops. There is also a cinema and tourist office with a cash point machine. Winter activities: Ice skating is available in the winter in Grand-Bornand. High quality tuition is available for all types of alpine skiing and snowboarding. If you are an adult beginner we recommend that you take private lessons, as you will learn much faster. In 2008, private lessons cost around €35/hour for 1 or 2 people. There are many activities for those who love the mountains but have no intention of skiing or boarding. There are many kilometres of snowy walking paths well away from the ski areas which can be tackled with walking boots. You could also try raquettes/snow-shoes (rental around €6/day) and there are guides that can take you to remote places with unspoilt views. There is a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool in La Clusaz. Summer activities (as well as mountain biking and hiking); Parapontists take off from the top of Mont Lachat to fly over the Aravis range and travel as far as Annecy and beyond. There are several schools based in Grand Bornand for beginners and experts. The Ecole 'Les passengers du vent' offers a tandem jump from 75e per person. There is a lot of climbing in the area from beginner's routes to more extreme challenges. As you come into Chinaillon there is a climbing wall on your left. Prices start from 37e for adults and 24e for children for a half days session. Guides and tuition can be arranged. The area is popular for ballooning due to the stunning scenery and excellent thermals. There is a ballooning festival each July and individual trips can be arranged. The area offers plenty of stunning scenery and quaint old chalets to keep artists happy. There are several potteries in the area with a fair every summer in Annecy. Pottery classes can be arranged in Grand Bornand.
