Le Pistachier is located in the centre of Assignan, a quiet and charming village 8 kilometres south-west of Saint-Chinian. It has recently been beautifully renovated, incorporating a host of features whilst offering every modern comfort including broadband internet access. Assignan is a 'pas de commerce' vineyard village, with no permanent shops. However, mobile services call throughout the week - the baker daily at 8.45am, the grocery at noon on Wednesdays and the butcher at noon on Fridays.It is a feature of your stay, when the villagers gather to make their purchases literally outside the house in the Place du Marche. Assignan is an ancient village first mentioned in 936, and today there are approx. 140 permanent residents. Just a short walk from Le Pistachier you can find excellent wineries, whilst walking in the area amongst the vineyards is a breathtaking experience. Cycling, canoeing and horse riding are amongst the plethora of activities in the area.

Notes on prices
Prices are in euros, and are per week, from Saturday - Saturday. Rental includes all utilites except where indicated. Linens, bedding and towels are included in the rental. A one-off charge of €50 is made towards laundry and final clean. Refundable damage deposit €150 payable in cash on arrival. No smoking please. 27 Oct 07-26 Apr 08, electricity excluded in the rate. Units are charged at €0.12. Meter read on arrival and at departure, and guests charged accordingly.

| Utility Room: | The utility cupboard in the kitchen holds an ironing board and iron along with miscellaneous cleaning equipment. |
| Living Rooms: | The spacious, cool and airy living room has a large window looking onto the square. The comfortable sitting area centres round the attractive fireplace (decorative only), and is furnished with an l-shaped sofa, armchair, sat. television and DVD player. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Patricia meets and greets guests, and explains where things are, mostly in French. She does the cleaning and ironing after guests have left and checks the house before guests arrive. For additional cleaning, it is 10 euros / hour. |

Outside
From the living room, there are two French windows opening onto Carreira de la Gleiza, and space enough to set up a table outside on the street - just leave enough space for the occasional vehicle to pass through!
Coast/Beach
Nearby is the home of the best oysters in France is at Bouzigues, where you can find oyster farms right in the sea. Bouzigues is about 45 minutes drive from Le Pistachier. Other beaches nearby include Valras plage, Marseillan plage and Cap d'Agde.
The River Orb also provides swimming and "beach" type places to chill.
Golf
There are quite a number of golf courses all in easy reach of Assignan:
Beziers, Carcassone, Lamalou Les Bains, Cap d'Agde, Narbonne, Montpellier.
All of these clubs accept non-members.
Special interest holidays
The area has an attractive range of recreational activities all within easy access. They include walking, cycles for hire (in St Chinian), canoeing on the River Orb, fishing in the St Pons national reserve areas, horse riding (between Assignan and Villespassans, about a mile away), day trips on the Canal du Midi, visits to vineyards and 'caves' (There are five in the village), visits to the beach - a forty minute drive, and of course eating out can be experienced in almost all the small towns and villages of the area. For those who wish to walk or hike, there are over 30 mapped walks in the immediate vicinity of Assignan/St Chinian/Canal du Midi area. See the book in the living room. There are two very good walks that start in the village itself and which explore the wonderful open countryside which surrounds Assignan. You can be in the 'garrigue' (bush/forest) and vineyards within three minutes of leaving the house in any direction.
Travel
Several airports nearby:
Carcassone - 50-60 minutes south of Assignan.
Perpignan - 1.5 hours drive south of Assignan.
Montpellier - 1 hour East.
All roads from these airports to Assignan are good.
Car hire is highly recommended.
