In the very oldest part of Aix, a generously-proportioned south-facing apartment (70m2), situated at rear of a handsome building dating from 1770, right on Cezanne's route to his studio. Quiet and sunny. Log fire in sitting room and central heating. It's just steps from Aix's finest sights and markets, the exquisite architecture in rose-gold stone, the fountains, museums, galleries, Cezanne's house and studio, the Roman baths and thermal spa, the music Festival's main venue. The Cathedral's west front dominates the neighbourhood while the lively narrow street hosts bistros and cafes, two bakerys, grocery, charcuterie, art gallery, bookshop, beauty salon. Public car parking is close at hand - although no need for a car since everything is walk-able. A totally central and convenient location while providing a tranquil base, the fashionable Cours Mirabeau, cinemas and restaurants are less than 5 minutes'walk away. Marseilles airport and TGV station are nearby, reached in under 30 minutes.

Bookings are from Monday to Monday but are flexible.

Notes on accommodation
Right on the route Cezanne took daily from home to his studio and back, the apartment could not be more ideally placed for enjoying the many events and different venues associated with the next massive exhibition Aix is hosting: 'Cezanne - Picasso' from May-September 2009. They called Cezanne 'the father of modern art' - come and experience his abiding influence for yourself in the delightful city where he lived and worked!

Green views over gardens and trees towards Cathedral belfry and Archbishop's Palace. Pretty kitchen window box herb garden.
Coast/Beach
Marseilles with its port and harbour and the beautiful coastline towards Toulon with the village of Cassis and the "Calanques" is about 35 minutes away by car.
Travel
Marseilles Marignane airport is 30 minutes by car. The TGV train station is 15 minutes by car. The rail link to Paris, also conveniently stopping at CDG airport, is a 3 hr journey. Nice airport is 2.5 hrs by car.
Car hire is easily available at airport/station or in town. There are many organized excursions available to the beauty spots in the region.
Distances
The fortified hilltop village of Les Baux de Provence is 75 kms away. Ansouis and the villages of the Luberon are about 1 hrs drive.
Booking notes
A 50% deposit is required to confirm booking with remainder payable 1 month prior to arrival. The payments are made in euros by wire transfer to a French account.
