Gites Sorede comprises a 2 bedroom village house and 2 x one bedroom apartments situated in the heart of this friendly village. All renovated to a high standard. Maison Canigou is a characterful sunny house with all year round eating terrace. The light sitting room leads to a separate fully equipped oak kitchen, terrace and downstairs loo. Upstairs there are two good size bedrooms with French doors to balconies. The main bedroom balcony has a view of the Canigou, the sacred often snow capped mountain of the Catalans and modern bathroom/shower room. Apartment Mimosa has a large terrace overlooking fields and trees. There is a fully equipped kitchen/sitting room which leads to a double bedroom and separate modern shower room. Apartment Des Arbres has a terrace with good views over fields and trees. The sitting room leads to a separate fully equipped kitchen also leading to the terrace. Stairs lead to a modern shower room and double bedroom with French doors. Free parking nearby.

10 euros off two week or more bookings outside July/August. Our changeover day is Saturday. This may be flexible outside July/August. 5% off all bookings of 3 weeks or more outside October 09 to April 2010. Payment is possible in Euros or pounds for new bookings. Minimum 2 week booking for July/August except where we have a gap of 1 week.

Kitchen with modern oak units, wooden worktops & Catalan tiles. Fully equipped with full size oven, hob with 4 rings, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster & kettle. We have tried to think of everything you might need. French doors lead directly to the peaceful terrace. Sitting room/dining room: Good size with sofa bed, coffee table, marble table and chairs & TV also leading directly to the terrace which is large enough to eat & sunbath on. Plenty of storage. Upstairs - Bedroom good size with double bed, wardrobe & bedside cabinet. French doors lead to balcony with wonderful views over village and trees. Modern shower room with mosaic tiles with glass shower cubicle, powerful shower, sink and WC. |

All units have iron and ironing board, outdoor table, chairs and BBQ. Shared washing machine on site. There is communal swimming pool nearby for for use in July/August.

10 mins drive to sandy Mediterranean palm lined beaches which are blue flag rated for cleanliness. There are a range of good reasonably priced child friendly restaurants here & a pedestrianized promenade for walking or cycling.

Ski resorts 1½ hour drive.

Travel
Perpignan airport 40 mins drive with Ryanair and BMI baby flights from London Stansted and Manchester. Barcelona/Girona airport 1 hour with many flights form the U.K. Ireland and Europe with Ryanair and other low cost airlines.Carcassonne & Beziers airport are 1.30 mins drive.Barcelona airport 2 hours drive with many international flights. Car hire is useful and worth pre booking. Argeles train station is 5 min drive.
Distances
There are many pretty villages within 5 mins drive. Both sea & mountains are only in minutes drive away. Collioure a medieval fishing village is 15 mins drive. Ceret with it's museum of modern art & vibrant market is 20 mins drive. Perpignan is 30 mins and has a lovely area near the river and plenty of little shops and sites. Spains Girona and Barcelona are in day trip range. The Costa Brave still has many unspoilt pine backed beaches. For the kids there is a popular aqua park.
Further details
Sorede is an authentic friendly village which has a range of good shops and restaurants including 2 boulangers. They are only a 1 min walk from Gites Sorede. There is a little market twice a week which always brings out the locals. This is a good place to stop for a coffee. There is a post office, cash dispenser and very helpful tourist office. The village also has a swimming pool, tennis, boules piste, playground and 'ministade'.
Sorede with it's warm micro climate is a really good place to be in the Autumn/winter/Spring as it is far more sheltered than the coast. It is also much warmer than inland mountainous areas. Being fully open all year round, is also a big plus. This is partly why we have chosen to live in Sorede ourselves.
Booking notes
Payment is in Euros directly to our French account. A 30% booking deposit is required. If booking within 8 weeks of the stay the payment is in full. Linen is optional at 7.50 euros per week. A £200/200 euros deposit is required and will be returned if all is in order when you leave.
Payment is also possible via PayPal by credit or debit card. A 3.5% commission is added. This is the method of choice from outside Europe.

We love Sorede it is just like going back in time. The kitchen is beautiful and really well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay, can we book for next year now.

About the owner
We are an English family of 4 who have lived in Sorede for 5 years now. Our children are bilingual French/English. I'm still working on it! The schools here are excellent. We love Sorede as it has such an ideal climate and is so close to the sea. We are now running holiday rentals very successfully full time, but with my background of Osteopathy and James's as a Medical Herbalist and Yoga Teacher we would like to use our skills more and branch out into this area too. We aim to give a friendly and personal service and it is important to us that you enjoy your holiday. We are very happy to give advice and answer any questions you may have. We have endeavoured to learn from our past rental experiences to make all our properties as comfortable and well equipped as possible.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We loved the property as we saw it had great potential. We have lovingly renovated it. A few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants make this an ideal base, yet despite this Maison Canigou is on a quiet road and the 2 apartments overlook greenery and are therefore very private. Sorede is a great place to escape the crowds in summer and enjoys a great climate off season too.
Unique benefits of the property
It is lovely to really feel you are part of the village. People are very friendly on the whole and you will get plenty of smiling Bonjour's when the locals pass you here. You are in the heart of the village in a part of real France. The Med is only 10 minutes drive away. From September 2009 we will have WIFI.
