La Carrière is a newly renovated 2 storey house. The ground floor has a square entrance hall, large dining kitchen opening on to the salon and twin bedroom with en-suite shower room. Stairs lead out of the hall to an upstairs salon which runs the full width of the house and has a large window looking out across the garden into a forest. There is a double bedroom and large family bathroom. The salon also has a double fouton. The house is set on the edge of the woods (part of the grounds of the local chateau), with direct access from the minor road running into the tiny hamlet of Linières Bouton.

Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds for four persons - for five or six people please add £50 per week. Short booking (weekends, stopovers) may be possible - availability and prices on request.

Changeover day normally Saturday (other days may be possible on request). Arrival time after 4pm. Departure time before 10am.

Notes on accommodation
Logs provided for wood burner in lounge, all other rooms with electric heaters (electicity consumption included in rental).
Cellar for guests' use, housing outdoor games, garden furniture, bikes etc. Child's buggy available.
Accessibility
Not suitable for wheelchair users.
Outside
Outside the house, there are flowering trees and shrubs surrounding a gravelled area which is ideal for boules and other outdoor games. There is also a large grassed area with a swing and other play equipment; there is plenty of room for cricket, football, badminton (racquets provided) etc. There is a full size table tennis table. Beyond the garden the forest stretches into the distance, freely accessible from the house. The forest, which children (and grown-ups!) will enjoy exploring, is the home of deer, wild boar and lots of birds. There are 2 patios, both shaded, and garden furniture and a barbecue are provided. 2 bikes are available for guests.
Coast/Beach
The Vendée coast is accessible for a day's outing (230 -250km). Particularly popular resorts are Les Sables d'Ollone and La Rochelle.
Golf
There is a well-renowned 18 hole golf course at Baugé (22km away).
Travel
The local airports are at Tours (flights from Stansted, 1 hour from the house); Angers (flights from Southampton, 45 min to house); Nantes (flights from E. Midlands, 2 hrs from house).
Ferry crossings - shortest travel time 3 hrs from Caen; 5 hrs from Boulogne (mostly motorway). Although the house can be reached by train (to Saumur, 25km) and taxi, a car is necessary to enjoy the area to the full.
Distances
The nearest town is 7km away at Noyant, with restaurants, bars, bank and a supermarket and a good Friday morning market. Saumur (25km) has many attractions (particularly the world famous horse school, underground mushroom museum and chateau). Some of the finest vineyards are around Bourgueil (25km), which also has the best market in the area, every Tuesday). A 20 minute drive takes you to Rillé, with lots of walks round the lake, safe swimming, a miniature railway and bird sanctuary.
Further details
Fishing is available in several local lakes (particularly Mouliherne 8km), and you can take on the fish of the mighty Loire. There is a splendid zoo at Doué (40km south). Fontevraud l'Abbaye (40km) is a major European cultural centre, the burial place of Richard the Lionheart and Henry 2nd, with truly magnificent buildings which can be visited independently or with a guided tour. A particularly good way of enjoying the Loire is to take a river cruise from Saumur. In addition to being attractive historic towns (with chateaux of course!), Angers and Tours offer lots of sophisticated shopping - both are within an hour's drive.
Booking notes
A non-returnable deposit of £75 is required at the time of booking, with the balance due 8 weeks before start of holiday. Refunds of balances for cancellations made within 4-8 weeks of holiday start 50%; 25% for cancellations made within 2-4 weeks of start. A local English friend acts as housekeeper and will welcome guests and deal with any queries during stay. No breakages deposit, but if you break something please replace it or let the housekeeper know. Welcome pack provided on arrival.

About the owner
We are Stephanie and Jack Lamb, both (semi!) retired, and with particular interests in house and garden design. Although living in England (Horsforth, near Leeds), we spend about three months each year in our house in Vernoil, which is about eight kilometres from La Carrière. Living in rural France makes a good break from our city life in England, and we enjoy having a different set of friends and neighbours - including of course our guests at La Carrière.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We have always loved France - its beauty, the life-style, the language - and when we decided to buy a house there more than ten years ago the Loire Valley seemed far enough south for distinctly better weather than England and easily accessible. It has lived up to our expectations, with a great blend of beautiful countryside, the famous chateaux and rivers, and lively towns.
Having completed the renovation of that house, we decided in 2005 to buy La Carrière. We enjoyed doing a major conversion, which we think gives our guests modern, stylish and well-maintained facilities in a house set in its own forest-surrounded grounds.
Unique benefits of the property
We enjoy organising our guests’ visit to La Carrière – we give guidance (where necessary) on travel routes, personalise the welcome basket, and we’ve dealt with a whole host of interesting questions before our visitors’ arrival. Either we, or local English friends, are there to greet guests and assist with any queries during their stay. We’ve put lots of ideas of what to see and do in the area in the house – and on our own website which you can connect to from this site.
Past guests seem to have particularly enjoyed the woodland setting of La Carrière (we’ve made an upstairs lounge so there are good views of the flora and fauna!) and the extensive range of inside and outside games both for adults and children.
