Particularly suitable for families with small children (the house is all on one level, fully equipped kitchen, cot/travel cot, highchair, sandpit, swings/slide, paddling pool, etc all provided free of charge). Located close to the 'wine route' towns of St Estephe and Pauillac, and set in the heart of the vineyards, a perfect location for expert and amateur to enjoy the great Médoc wine region or the markets and brocantes of the nearby villages. Further details
Attractive towns of Lesparre and Pauillac 10 kms away: Leclerc (Lesparre) and Champion (Lesparre/Pauillac) supermarkets close by. Most amenities can be found in these towns including banks, cashpoints, doctor's surgery, A&E clinic (Lesparre), hardware stores, etc. Both towns also have authentic local markets, offering both fresh local produce and artisanal wares. Other particularly good markets include that at Saint Vivien en Médoc on Wednesday mornings.
Brocante/antique shops and markets also abound in the area including both Lesparre and Pauillac but also Saint Christoly en Médoc, Castelnau...
The region boasts a fine selection of restaurants, many linked into the historic wine route down the Médoc and associated châteaux. The wine route itself is the finest area in France both to sample the claret and to visit the stunning châteaux. Even the most exclusive makers of 'grands crus' will open their doors, often without prior reservation, and be happy to show you around and give detailed explanations without any pressure to buy the goods. More applied courses can be booked, see in particular the wine school at Château Cordeillan Bages near Pauillac, which also houses a very fine restaurant. The tourist information office in Paulliac is excellent and offers wine tastings and arranges visits to local chateaux as well as providing an enormous amount of information on everything to do in the area. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The city of Bordeaux is about an hour's drive away: it is an astonishingly preserved city with fine cathedrals, opera houses, parks and Haussmann architecture which is undergoing a thorough urban renovation, in particular to accentuate the long riverbanks of the Garonne which runs through the centre.
