The house is a converted farmhouse standing in an acre of completely fenced land. It has been carefully converted to retain original features, where possible. It is fully equipped and accommodates 8 people very comfortably. There is an English TV and French TV and a DVD player (region 2). It also has a patio with garden furniture and a barbeque and indoors there are a number of games and books available. There is easy parking and area is generally very quiet. It is well located for access to the châteaux of the Western Loire as well as the plentiful restaurants and many wines of the region. The area is renowned for horse riding and is also suitable for cycling and walking. There are several Parcs de Loisir in driving distance which provide open-air swimming and other attractions.

Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds.
| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 has a double bed and its own toilet and wash facilities. Bedroom 2 has one double and 2 single beds. Bedroom 3 has one double bed. All bedrooms are large and have plenty of space. Access to bedroom 1 is through bedroom 2. |
| Bathrooms: | The main bathroom is downstairs and contains a bath and spacious shower, as well as a toilet and wash basin. There is also a functional toilet in the utility room. |
| Kitchen: | The kitchen and dining area (25sqm) contains an electric oven with gas hob, a microwave, a large fridge with freezer compartment, a dish washer and a toaster. You are also provided with tea and coffee making facilities and a log fire. |
| Utility Room: | The utility room to the rear of the kitchen includes a (French!) washing machine and a tumble dryer, as well as a sink and spare toilet. There is also an iron and ironing board. |
| Living Rooms: | The lounge has several comfortable chairs and sofas (including a convertible sofa) centred on another log fire. The English TV is here. There is also an Entrée with a table-tennis table that can be used for other, gentle games. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Towels and linen can be provided at £5 per person per week. The gîte will be cleaned before you arrive and we ask you to leave it in a presentable state. |
Notes on accommodation
Both main rooms downstairs have log fires and logs are available. There are also a number of electric heaters available for additional background heat. The property is enclosed and it is ideal for young families as well as more sedate parties. We accept pets but we ask you to ensure that you respect the needs of other guests. In particular, we have defined an area for dog’s toilet facilities so that it does not interfere with children's free access to the grounds.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, the property is not suitable for wheelchair access. All bedrooms are upstairs and access to the house does include small steps. There are one or two low beams and the stairs have open treads, so please be careful as you move around the house. We have also tried to preserve the original character of the middle bedroom and this means that the floor is somewhat uneven, so, once again, be careful of your footing.
Outside
The grounds occupy about an acre. The bulk of this is a rough field but there is a patio and garden area in front of the house. There is also an above-ground pool that is about 10 feet in diameter. The patio includes normal garden furniture and a BBQ. The provided games include petanque.

Port or Airport: Ouistraham (Caen) 280km / 3 hours. Le Havre 340km / 3¼ hours. Cherbourg 387km / 4¼ hours. St Malo 316km / 3¼ hours. Paris (Charles de Gaulles) 339km / 3½ hours. Nantes airport 153km / 1¾ hours. Limoges airport 285km / 3½ hours. A car is essential for access.
Distances
St Philbert is a small village and the centre is about 3-4km away. The larger town of Longue is about the same distance and boasts several supermarkets, quite a few shops and a market on Thursday mornings. Saumur is 8km and is a sizable town. As well as shops, it has a lovely château, a tank museum, regular equestrian displays, innumerable restaurants and wine ‘caves’. We are also 1 hour from Tours and Angers. Also visit Fontevrault Abbey and many other châteaux.
Further details
Other places of interest include a number of troglidyte villages - notably Rochmenier, with several underground restaurants too. You can take a boat trip on the Loire. Visit Les Rosiers - famous for its roses. There are large zoos in Doué la Fontaine and La Fleche. In the southern suburbs of Saumur you can also find the largest Menhir in Europe - hidden away in someone's garden! There are a number of fascinating events and we try to keep details up to date on our website. In addition to Saumur, there are some remarkable restaurants in local towns and villages. Some are in the middle of nowhere and you might discover them by accident or by the recommendations of other guests.
