A beautifully restored Charentaise cottage with views over open countryside and the garden. The ancient village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is close by. Visit the various river and lake beaches which are close by and are all child friendly. There is also golf, horse-riding, canoeing etc.The Atlantic coast is an hour and 15 minutes away. You can visit the local vineyards and sample the speciality of the Charente; Pineau. Trust us it's good! Visit the underground caves, explore little villages nestling on the banks of rivers, or drive to one of the towns close by and treat yourselves to some retail therapy. House hunting, then we can introduce you to the local agents and help with info on the area. But if it's rest you want then find a shady spot, a glass of wine and read that book you've never seem to find time for. Watch the magpies hassle our chickens for their dinner and the pretty French birds looking for titbits (feathered variety!). In the evening dine alfresco under the stars.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Prices are based on two adults and two children under 16 years sharing.
We do consider discounts for longer lets and for single couples.The gite can also be rented on a bed and breakfast basis; with or without breakfast.
Changeover day
Changeover day is usually Saturday but can be flexible. Please depart by 11am. Arrival time is 4pm.
Accommodation
| Bedrooms: | The bedroom is open plan with a double and two single beds. Which can be divided off with curtains. A cot is also available. |
| Bathrooms: | En-suite bathroom with bath/shower over, wc and sink. |
| Kitchen: | The kitchen has cooker, microwave, fridge, washing machine. There is also a dining table and chairs. Access to a freezer is also provided. |
| Living Rooms: | The lounge has leather sofa and double sofa bed. There is Sky TV, DVD/CD player and a wood burning stove. We have an extensive DVD library, plenty of books to read and childrens games. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Bedding and towels are provided. Cleaning is done on changeovers. Towels and linen are also done at this time. If you are staying for two weeks or more linen and towels are changed on Saturdays. |
Notes on accommodation
We can provide a cot, high chair, baby bath, stair gate and bottle warmer. The garden is fenced and has a swing. Baby sitting can also be provided. We also have a large field with fruit trees and you are welcome to help yourself to the fruit. There is plenty of room for children to play on this field. There is also a complimentary 'Welcome Basket' for all our guests upon their arrival. If you are house hunting we can introduce you to some of the local estate agents.

Outside
Outside there is a large couryard with garden furniture and barbecues. There is use of an above ground pool. The garden is colourful with plenty of lawn areas for sunbathing. If you feel energetic you can have a game of boules or kick a ball around on the field.
Coast/Beach
Sandy river beaches at St. Aulaye and Aubeterre. Lake beaches at Parcoul and Brossac. All are 10 minutes drive away. Parcoul has water slides and Aubeterre has canoeing. All have cafe's. There is an open air pool in Chalais. River and lake beaches are free. The coastal resort of Royan is approx. an hour and a half away with a lovely clean sandy beach. Surfing beaches are two hours away at Lacanau. Isle d'Oleron with trips to Fort Boyard is two hours away.
Golf
There is an 18 hole golf course at Angouleme. A 9 hole golf course 10 mins away near Aubeterre and an 18 hole course an hour away at Cognac.
Travel
Nearest airports are Poitiers, Bergerac, Limoges and Bordeaux. All are about one and half hour's drive away. Ferry ports; Boulogne 8 hours, Calais 9 hours, Dieppe, Cherbourg, Caen 6 hours. Train to Paris approx. 3 hours. Use of a car is essential.
Distances
Nearest village with bar and shop 2 mins. Nearest town with shops bars, banks and restaurants is Chalais 5 minutes away. Markets are held in Chalais, Riberac, Aubeterre and Brantome; All within 20 miles. The historical town of Angouleme is half an hour away.Cognac is about 50 miles away.
Further details
Plenty of good restaurants within easy reach. Lots of places of interest to visit - Chateaux, caves, vineyards, cognac distilleries, musuems, churches, Roman sites and the monolithic church at Aubeterre. For children there is also plenty to do. River and lake beaches with pedaloes,canoes etc. Futurescope, animal parks, zoos, Nautilus;a large leisure pool with slides and wave machines are all within easy reach. There are brocantes to visit most Sunday mornings. Walking and cycling routes are also in abundance, covering all abilities.
Booking notes
We do consider discounts for longer lets. We can also rent the gite on a per night basis. Electricity, gas and water are inclusive. Bedding, linen and towels are provided each week. A non returnable deposit of 20% of total rental is required on booking. Balance to paid 6 weeks before holiday. Returnable breakage/damage deposit of £50 to be paid with rental balance.
