A modern village house in a typical French square, located opposite the ancient west door of the abbey church, though don't be concerned, the bells will not disturb you. It is situated within walking distance of 2 restaurants and village shops. There are lovely views of the river Isle from the first floor balcony which opens onto both the living room and the kitchen. There are two first floor bedrooms. The outside terrace area is secluded but sunny, ideal for those leisurely outdoor meals. It is the perfect place for exploring the many Bordeaux wine regions, enjoying good food and for visiting historic places. There are miles of unspoilt lanes, cycle routes, walks and bridleways to discover with fun days out to St Emilion, Blaye, Bordeaux and Royan. It is an easy drive from the ferry ports and inexpensive flights go into local airports. Please do not hesitate to contact us for enquires or anything that we can help you with.

Changeover day
Saturday to Saturday (usually). Arrival after 4pm. Departure before 10am.

Notes on accommodation
The house has electric convector heaters in every room. There is a portable airconditioning unit in the hallway. Please be aware that the property is not suitable for small children due to the external stone staircase to the first floor accommodation. We politely request guests not to smoke inside the house.
Accessibility
We regret that the property is totally unsuited to disabled people due to the external stone staircase.
Outside
Small, private yet sunny garden with floodlit patio area. There is plenty of garden furniture for guests to spend warm, long relaxing evenings together. Lovely views over the garden walls.
Coast/Beach
The Atlantic Coast can either be accessed at Royan in the north which is 65 miles away or further south at the spectacular Arcachon basin.
Travel
Bordeaux and Bergerac airports are each an hour's drive away. TGV from Paris arrives in Libourne, which is 15 mins drive away. Car hire facilities are available at each of these and are essential.
Distances
Guitres a few paces away with restaurants, village shops, boat trips and steam train. Coutras: 5 miles has restaurants/ bars, supermarkets, swimming pool (high season only) and sports facilities. Libourne: (13 miles) is a historic bastide town with cosmopolitan shops, pedestrianised centre, fantastic open air and covered markets. St Emilion: (16 miles) has vineyards, ancient monuments, steep winding cobbled streets and restaurants. Bordeaux: (26 miles) is a major international city of culture.
Further details
Within walking distance there are 2 excellent restaurants, three artisan bakers, 2 superb butchers/delicatessen, a mini-market, post office and banks with cash point machines. Guitres boasts three main attractions: The impressive 11th century abbey church, boat trips on the River Isle and a steam railway. There is an indoor swimming pool at Saint Seurin Sur l'Isle as well as an outdoor pool at Coutras (high season only). Fishing is available on the Isle River which the house overlooks (permits available locally).
