L'Abbaye du Val is set within one of the prettiest parts of North France. Although the farm is set in a secluded location it is only 10 minutes from the town of Thury-Harcourt where all essential shopping can be carried out and which also has a cinema, superstore and restaurants. It is about the same distance from the pretty village of Clécy set within the Orme Valley where the outdoor enthusiast can ride, canoe, fish, hang-glide or rock climb in spectacular scenery. The site formerly comprised a monastery built in 1125 and some of the buildings still remain and evidence of the ruins of others can be seen. Thomas á Beckett is reputed to have studied at the Monastery in his early days and the magnificent altar can still be seen in the church at nearby Pierrefitte en Cinglais. The area is an artists paradise.

Travel
The most convenient ferry crossing is from Portsmouth to Caen with Brittany Ferries, this route has become rather expensive. Best for value is LD Ferries from Newhaven to Dieppe and Le Havre. It is advisable to book the car ferry at the time you decide upon your holiday as the ferries become extremely busy at peak holiday times.
Booking notes
Book directly with the owner by telephone. A deposit is required for each property £100 for the house and £75 for the gite. Balance to be paid one calendar month before the 1st day of holiday.
