La Gaudane is a superbly crafted golden stone building clad in wisteria and trompette, designed and built in 1881 as an embroidery factory which accounts for its vast and cool interiors with extra deep windows. Each apartment is outstanding with a unique personality of antique furniture and state of the art appliances. It has all the advantages of the town with the quietness of being just off the busier beat, set on the lower slopes of the 13th Century fortified town it is just 300 metres from bakers, butchers, bank, post office, supermarket and patisserie. There is both a courtyard garden and the main garden equipped with a new fenced swimming pool and a large terrace (half shaded) with a magnificent panoramic view over the valley of the Cerou. With a range of 4 apartments, big rooms and terraces, perfect for larger groups and family reunions, wedding parties.

This loft area has been designed for artists studio space or just lovers of airy space. A teacher could live here and give studio classes.

A charming garden apartment with magnificent four poster bed. There are now two double bedrooms with a full bathroom with free standing bath, a fully equipped kitchen/living room with direct access to the Terrace and Pool. The living room has a double sofa bed, TV and quality furnishings. The kitchen is equipped with top of the range cooker, fridge and dishwasher. There is a separate laundry with washing machine and dryer and a separate wc.

 

Notes on accommodation
There are two huge loft apartments, each of rather different character, the massive Owner's apartment and a charming Lodge with direct access to the terrace. They have been designed to celebrate the wonderful airy space of the building. There is a large shared private garden, terrace and fenced pool with pool fridge.

Outside
There is a large private garden, terrace and big family pool (fenced) with a range of garden and pool furniture as well as a Wendy House and games for the children, along with a pool fridge for cold refreshments and barbecue.
Private parking within the grounds of the building (a big plus!)

Coast/Beach
By way of Albi, Cordes is a half day from the Mediterranean, Bordeaux and the Atlantic or Spain through the upper passes and the Pyrenees. There are two big water parks nearby.

Golf
There are four good pay and play country club golf courses nearby and La Gaudane has a good supply of golf clubs to use. The Owners Apartment would accommodate a 'foursome' quite comfortably.

Travel
By Air: To Toulouse or Rodez from London Gatwick or Stansted as well as provincial airports. 1 hours journey to Cordes.

Hire Cars: Can be found via Owners Direct home page.

By Train: Montauban and Toulouse are available on main line services. By sleeper train from Paris to Cordes / Vindrac (3km along the road).

By Car: 600 miles from Channel Ports via Autoroute or by lesser roads seeing more of the villages and towns. An overnight stop recommended.

Distances
Cordes is just an hour by road from Toulouse, Toulouse Airport, Rodez Airport or Montauban centre. Albi is 30 minutes by car.

There are tennis courts nearby (La Gaudane has quality racquets for use), a water park half a mile down the road and another at Albi. Canoes can be hired at St Antonin and there is horse riding and hiking in the wild Aveyron.

In Albi there are two lively theatres and cinema as well as the Lautrec Museum and famous cathedral and castle.

Further details
There are over 50 studios, galleries and ateliers in the town selling handicrafts and delicious specialities of the Tarn, as well as numerous restaurants and cafes. In mid July Cordes celebrates its medieval history with 3 days of festivities - the whole town gets involved and this is definitely a spectacular event not to be missed. Excellent fishing is available in the Tarn, Aveyron & Cerou rivers, permits and bait available locally. For 2010 - we can arrange for you to spend a day with a renowned food and wine expert who will take you to the region's finest vineyards and restaurants - a really memorable day out. Small charge payable locally. When on holiday it's a pleasure to go out and dine leaving the kids with our guardians as babysitters. Our guardians will also help with shopping and cooking- you can spend a day out and come home to an excellent meal.

Deposit 25% on booking, balance 1 month prior. Damage Deposit of £200/300 Euros at time of balance due with final balance - refundable on departure. All linen provided including pool towels. About the owner
My life was a journey, each step a thunderbolt, a crush and always, my passion went to life, to new experiences, to people also, chiefly. And my kids (the last ones are 10 and 11). Alter the water (I lived 10 years on a river boat, and 7 on a front beach, "La Gaudane" in the middle level mountains is, with these height trees, the last one of this steps. "La Gaudane", a nice and an enjoying experience. It is very big and so spacious, than I can share it and share all the happiness that this old industrial plant of embroidery (1881), give now transformed in self catering houses, offering exotic and unexpected visions. Every body can appreciate here, time, arts, good wine, food, sport and sun. You understand that I have a lot of thought to share to do your stay, a very pleasant stay.

There is no reason to give it is, a thunderbolt, a crush and always, my passion for life, happiness, beauty of stones, the beauty of trees, of space, of history, of quietness and nature, of air and flowers, and the sing of birds and for comfort and light and freshness inside. There is no reason but seduction, this one which will take yourself and shall keep yourself, when coming.

Unique benefits of the property
At "La Gaudane" I am in the deeper countryside and forests, with the quietness but with the essential services around me, at less of half a mile and near from the town of Albi (20 miles). "Albi" which is now entered in the UNESCO World Heritage and has "Cordes sur Ciel " as one of its jewels. Just to say that we have wonderful things to discover when we are here. "Cordes sur Ciel" is a picture of the deeper and oldest french historical period, with its castles and walls of old stones and medieval streets paved. A deeper countryside and forests ideal for walking and bike and especially for canoeing and kayak. And also a lot of wine producers, with their own cave or their own alcohol distillery. An area where it is also made Whisky. Rare (an very special), a french Whisky.
