Three fantastic holiday cottages in a magical setting. A get away from it all paradise if you're looking for tranquillity and the real France while still being close enough for lots of interesting and fun things to do. Our Logis is set in grounds of two acres with a magnificent stone entrance complete with curving exterior stairway which opens onto a huge sun trap courtyard with gardens and stables. Walk through another stone archway and you will find yourself in a glorious meadow and small orchard. La Cabane is a peaceful little hamlet, with bar/resto and post office only 1km away in the village of Breville. An organic boulangerie means your morning baguette is only a leisurely bike ride away. Within easy reach of airports and Channel ports, we have a wonderfully warm and sunny climate. The lively town of Cognac is only 10 minutes away (cognac tastings even closer!), children will love the nearby lake with it's sandy shore and only 40 mins drive to breathtaking Atlantic beaches

Notes on accommodation
This is a great place for children. As well as the beautiful new 10 metre heated pool and paddling pool, there is a sandpit and a playhouse for the tinies, swings, climbing frame and 2 slides in the meadow and a selection of toys including ride ons, bikes, footballs, dollies pushchair and roller skates plus the newestaddition, a giant top quality trampoline. At the same time there is so much space that children can run about, play football or ride bikes (we have some available for you to borrow) without bothering anyone at all. The grassy meadow paths lead to hide away corners that the boys often like to use for dens and the little girls call their secret gardens. You may find it difficult to drag them away on family outings... lots of freedom for imaginative play while adults relax and enjoy a change of pace.
Just in case you really have to keep up some contact with the outside world we have WIFI internet access as well.
Accessibility
La Grenouille can be suitable for those with mobility problems as everything is on the ground floor with only one small step into the shower room /WC.
Outside
New for Summer 2008 our beautiful 10m pool. Heated, floodlit and with roman steps, it has both a safety alarm and security fencing to keep children safe.We have a paddling pool for babies and toddlers and plenty of sun loungers and deckchairs. Play table tennis, pétanque (French bowls) or simply stroll or sit with a good book in the gardens, meadow or by the pool while you get a suntan. Nature lovers can hope to see to see a variety of wild creatures including, hedgehogs, rabbits, small lizards, little green tree frogs, wild birds such as owls (short and long eared), kestrels, buzzards, swallows and for the last few years running, a pair of hoopoes raising their young in the courtyard. We named La Sorciere after the witch weather vane on the roof, La Grenouille from the vivid green tree frogs found here that can be heard croaking with delight (we assume) when we have a rare summer rain shower and Le Figuier is called for the many fig trees that spring up and flourish here at La Cabane.
Coast/Beach
There is a small lake with sandy shore only a 10 min drive away at the nearby village of Thors, complete with a cafe, pedalos and swings etc. Often this alone is enough to satisfy the children. Only a 40 min drive away at the village of Meschers you will find a collection of beautiful but uncrowded sandy coves. All along the Atlantic coast there are huge expanses of spotless beaches, backed by sand dunes and pine forests, plus of course the islands of Oleron and Re etc to explore.
Golf
Cognac Golf Course 72 par 18 hole course designed by architect Jean Garaialde. High quality setting and open all year. Other nearby courses at Saintes, Royan, Angouleme, and Ile d'Oleron.
Travel
By car from St Malo, a 4-5 hr drive, 5 hours from Caen and approx 7 from Calais. We're within easy reach of several airports (Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Poitiers and Limoges) served by low cost airlines such as Ryanair and Flybe and BMI Baby. Departures from London Stansted, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow, Southampton, Manchester and of course Gatwick. The nearest to us is La Rochelle , a drive of just an hour and a quarter. Or take a TGV Train (Paris to Angouleme) and then pick up a car.
Distances
The pretty and peaceful hamlet of La Cabane is only 1km from the main village of Breville and just 11km from Cognac itself. Driving is extremely easy as the roads are empty compared with what you are probably used to. The beautiful Roman city of Saintes is only 35km away mins, Angouleme 50km and La Rochelle 115km, reached in an hour and a quarter. Impressive Bordeaux is so easy to get to for a day out as you can be there in just one and a half hours by autoroute.
Further details
Cognac itself is only a 10 min drive away with something to please everyone. Here you can wander the old cobbled streets, take a boat trip on the beautiful River Charente, shop in classy French boutiques or stock up in the very competitively priced hypermarkets. Plenty of bars and pavement cafes where you can take a rest a watch the world go by. There is a beautiful park in the town centre with an imaginative carved wooden children's play area (carved vines and grapes of course being in Cognac!) plus another outdoor activity centre next to the River Charente where you can get a bite to eat, hire canoes etc and let the kids loose on the large children’s soft play enclosure. La Rochelle has the fantastic Aquarium and the Maritime Museum and there is a brilliant zoo at La Palmyre. Futuroscope, near Poitiers , is the home of the Theme Park of The Moving Image. It is perfect for children and adults from around age 9 and up. Paleosite, the new local attraction, has lots of fun interactive things to discover all about pre- historic times. A visit to at least one of the numerous Cognac producers is probably a 'must'. See how Cognac is made and then sample it! Even better, sample the local produce just up the road from us. There are also new visitor's centres and museums in Cognac giving presentations in several languages. For the energetic there is golf, fishing, canoeing, horse riding, tennis, and swimming. Finally sit down and relax in the gardens or at one of the many open air bars and restaurants and watch the world go by. Events such as the Film Festival in April, the Blues Passion (Blues and Jazz) in July and the Coup de Chauffe (street theatre) in September are all well worth catching if you can. For classic Car enthusiasts, the Rallye des Ramparts is held in September. Immense fun over a three days where the town is closed and the cars race around the city walls. In the winter try the Cognac Ice Rink and the Tropical Pool at Jonzac.
