La Cachette is a lovely cottage situated in a peaceful rural hamlet. The house is tastefully decorated and furnished and has wooden beams throughout. The garden is delightful with beautiful views. It is ideally situated 25 minutes from the many beautiful beaches of Brittany’s north coast, and 12 miles from the historic medieval city of Dinan. Its picturesque narrow streets are a hive of activity, and filled with many half-timbered houses and historic buildings. Boat trips on the River Rance can be taken from the port of Dinan. La Cachette is ideally situated for touring Brittany, and other attractions easily visited are the Chateau de la Hunaudaie, the famous stud-farm at Lamballe, the walled port of Saint-Malo, Cancale for its famous sea-food, and the towns of Combourg and Dol de Bretagne. Slightly further afield a visit to Mont St. Michel is a must. Inland the Breton scenery is charming, with many winding lanes. There are many opportunities nearby for walking, fishing and golf.

Both spacious with plenty of storage space. Hairdryer provided.
Bathrooms: Spacious downstairs shower room.
Separate WC.
Kitchen: Large airy kitchen fully equipped with double electric oven and gas hob. Fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster and large double sink.
Utility Room: Separate utility room with sink, washing machine, tumble drier, iron and ironing board.
There is also a table football game in the utility room!
Living Rooms: Large spacious lounge with one exposed stone wall, and large granite fireplace with wood burner. Comfy sofas, Freeview LCD TV with CD and DVD players. Cupboards with books, CDs, DVDs, toys and games. Dining area with seating for 6. Spiral staircase.

Duvets, pillows and mattress protectors are provided. Bed linen can be provided for a small charge (please enquire).
The property is cleaned prior to arrival. We now provide a highchair and sturdy travel cot on request.

Notes on accommodation
There are electric convector heaters in all rooms.
Please note that the property has a narrow spiral staircase that may be difficult for very young children, the elderly or infirm.

Accessibility
Unfortunately this property would be unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Outside
To the front is a large private parking area / courtyard with out-building.
The rear garden is well established with fruit trees, lawns and a patio area with barbecue and garden furniture. All with views of the river valley and delightful surrounding countryside.

Coast/Beach
There are numerous unspoilt beaches to explore on the nearby Emerald Coast. The family resorts of St. Jacut and St. Cast le Guildo are both within 25 minutes drive. Further along the coast to the east are the popular resorts of St. Briac, St. Lunaire and Dinard. To the west you can visit the beautiful rocky headland of Cap Frehel, La Latte Fort or many other sandy beaches and fishing villages on the pink granite coast.

Travel
The nearest airport is at Dinard, about 35 minutes away.
This is regularly served by RyanAir.
The nearest ferry port is St Malo (Brittany Ferries, Condor), approximately 45 minutes away.
Further afield is Cherbourg (about 2.5 hours), Caen (about 2 hours) and Le Havre (about 3 hours).
The Channel ports of Boulogne, Calais and the Eurotunnel are about 6 hours distant.
A car is pretty essential.

Distances
Bourseul is the nearest village - about 1 km away.
Plancoet 10 minutes.
Dinan, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Brittany, is only 12 miles away.
Mont St Michel is about 1 hour 15 minutes away.
St Malo is 45 minutes away.
Jugon les Lacs (historic village with lake - watersports, walking activities) - 10 minutes away.
Lamballe is about 20 minutes away.

Further details
There is a bakery, small grocery store and tabac in Bourseul.
A large good supermarket, and several small shops and banks can be found at Plancoet, or on a smaller scale at Plelan le Petit (about 10 minutes drive).
Most towns have weekly markets, one of the best is at Dinan on Thursday mornings.
A comprehensive (much complemented) welcome pack with details of all local amenities, places to eat, activities and places to visit is provided in the house.

Booking notes
Prices per week include the first 50 units of electricity, after that the charge per unit is 0.20 Euros.
A non-returnable deposit of 30% is required to secure a reservation, the balance to be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival, together with a refundable £100 security deposit, to be held against breakages and damage.
This will be returned by post after the property has been inspected.
We regret pets are not allowed.

About the owner
We are Michael (‘Sam’) and Diane. We live in Hampshire and La Cachette is our holiday home. Because of work commitments we are only able to visit 5 – 6 times a year, and yearn for the day when we can spend longer periods in our little piece of France.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
After many enjoyable family holidays in the south and west of France, we decided to buy our own home there. As it is easily accessible from the UK by car, we thought we’d check out Brittany, despite never having been there before! After viewing many so-called habitable houses and unrestored wrecks, we prepared to return home without a property. However our last viewing was La Cachette, and we knew it was for us as soon as we arrived! We signed on the dotted line and just made it to the ferry in time, before wondering what on earth we had done! Somehow without knowing the region we had luckily stumbled into the perfect location. La Cachette overlooks a beautiful rural valley yet is within easy reach of the stunning coast with its delightful beaches and perfect old medieval towns.

Unique benefits of the property
Just imagine - relaxing in the garden, overlooking the beautiful valley, listening to the birds and the gentle rush of the nearby river. La Cachette is the perfect place to get away from it all. Yet nearby is everything you could need for a perfect holiday: beaches, castles, glorious countryside, rivers, medieval towns, swimming, fishing, cycling, golf, numerous walks, and of course many restaurants. The cottage itself is charming and full of character. It is well equipped and furnished to be our 'home from home' and we want our guests to feel at home and enjoy it as much as we do. Even now, after so many visits, we still get excited about going there. We have spent the past few years exploring the many delights of the area, and have built up a wealth of information for our guests.
