Welcome to La Maison Bleue gites, 2 wonderfully converted stone barns (La Dominique and La Fleur), renovated and equipped to a high standard and with everything you may need if you are travelling with young children. Each gite sleeps 6 and has everything you would need for a fantastic holiday in the lovely Charente-Maritime region. Both gites have direct access to the heated swimming pool and full use of a large garden which includes a brand new 14ft trampoline with safety net, badminton nets, swings, boule and new ping pong table in the open barn. There is so much to see and do in the local area. Bordeaux, Saint Emillion. Cognac, Saintes, Royan, Rochefort and La Rochelle are all within 1 hour’s drive. Closer you can find superb beaches, swimming lakes, fishing lakes, historic towns and chateaux, there's plenty to do all year round and the list is endless. Rented together they make the perfect accommodation for holidaying with friends or family.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds and are fully inclusive. The gites are fully cleaned at the end of each stay which we do not charge for, we just ask that you try leave them as you found them. A welcome basket is included in the price which includes bread, milk, butter, cheese, wine, jam, juice and fresh eggs from our neighbouring chickens. If travelling with children a kids treat will be added.
Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday in peak season. All other times we can be flexible so just ask. Bookings commence at 4.00pm on the day of arrival and terminate at 10.00am on the day of departure (unless otherwise agreed).

La Fleur (2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4/6)

La Fleur has 2 bedrooms and a double sofa bed in the lounge. Both bedrooms are upstairs, 1 double and 1 twin. All bedlinen and bath towels (not beach/pool) are provided during your stay. There is a wash basin and toilet upstairs and downstairs there is a spacious shower room which contains a large shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet. There is a separate kitchen with cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, juicer and all the normal crockery and cutlery. A washing machine, iron and ironing board are available in a utility room in the courtyard for both gites to share. The light and airy lounge/dining room contains a double sofa bed, two easy chairs and a large pine dining table. We have also included a DVD player with a wide selection of DVDs available, books and children's games/puzzles. Outside, La Fleur has its own private covered patio with patio furniture and a stone BBQ. Also available is everything you would need for travelling with young children. |

Notes on accommodation
Both gites are light and airy and equipped to a high standard. Available for our younger guests are a cot, highchair, stairgate, potties, toilet trainer seats, steriliser, baby bath, baby bjorn bounce chair, activity seat, playmat and playpen if needed. The large garden is completely fenced in and is safe and secure. Babysitting is also available.
Accessibility
La Dominique has a double bedroom with ensuite shower room on the ground floor. There is one step leading down to it from the living room.
Outside
The gites have direct access to the heated pool and garden. The pool measures approximately 11x5.5m. The pool is heated from the beginning of April to the end of October each year. We try to keep it at a very comfortable 28/29oc which means you are able to swim everyday. The pool has a shallow and deep end and has a gently shelving slope all the way round. It is fitted with a safety alarm which complies with French standards, and at the beginning of 2012 a new fence will be put up around the pool, plus a childrens play house and picnic area will be added to the garden. In the garden you will find a brand new 14ft trampoline with safety net (the kids love it), a new ping pong table in the open barn, along with swings, badminton plus we have also provided various bat and ball games and a boule set. There is certainly plenty of room to run around. You can also take advantage of our fruit trees depending on the season!
Coast/Beach
Apart from just relaxing at La Dominque & La Fleur (and it is very peaceful) there are lots of things to do and see in the area: The nearest beaches are about 40 minutes up the coast at Meschers - these are small coves with safe, sandy beaches. Five minutes further on are the enormous beaches of St.Georges de Didonne and Royan, both with full safety patrols, lots of space & some watersports. Further afield (1 hour) are the fantastic surfing beaches around Archachon and Bordeaux.
Golf
Good golf courses can be found at Saintes (30 mins) Royan, (50 mins) Cognac (50 mins) and Bordeaux (55 mins) or just 10 minutes away is a 9 hole golf course in neighbouring Montendre.
Travel
The gites are very easy to get to being just 10 minutes from the A10 motorway and approximately 1 hour from the nearest airports. By car we are 7.5 hours drive from Calais or the channel tunnel, 6 hours drive from La Harve or Cherbourg and 5 hours drive from Caen. The nearest airport is Bordeaux (55 minutes), followed closely by La Rochelle (65 minutes). Other aiports nearby are Poitiers (90 minutes), Tours (180 minutes), Limoges (120 minutes), Bergerac (140 minutes) and Nantes (140 minutes).
Distances
The gites are 1.5km from the village of Soubran. Soubran has a baker, bar/tabac/restaurant, post office, library, school and a small nature reserve. The market town of Mirambeau is 7km away and has a supermarket, several shops including a baker, butcher, pharmacy, hairdresser, bank, a couple of bars and restaurants and a lovely chateau which is a 4 star hotel and restaurant. Within a 30 minute drive from the gites there are numerous other pretty towns well worth visiting.
Further details
Places to visit include cognac. Several well-known cognac houses are open to the public and give guided tours around their distilleries. The town of Cognac itself also merits a trip. St Emillion. A very picturesque town, the home of “excellent” red wine. There are guided tours of a different chateau each day during the summer, by “road-train”. Blaye - An old garrison town, well worth a visit. Saintes - Roman city on the Charente river, complete with amphitheatre and Roman remains. Beautiful abbey and churches and good shopping.
Royan - Lovely beaches, interesting yacht harbour. Good indoor food market. A “smart” seaside town. Talmont - A very pretty estuary village with an interesting ancient church. La Palmyre - Renowned for its zoo, reputed to be the finest in Europe. The beaches in this area are magnificent, mainly nature reserves and very wild. Also, visit the “Phare de Coubre” (lighthouse) and, if you’re fit, climb it’s 300 steps for a breathtaking view. Marennes - This is the home of the oyster and mussel “industry” - a fascinating area especially if you like seafood. Ile D’Oleron - Cross to this island on a magnificent bridge. The island has beautiful beaches & an interesting citadel. La Rochelle - Very pretty harbour town (one of the most famous in France). Well worth a visit - many good shops & restaurants. A sea food lovers paradise. Bordeaux - An impressive and chic city with good shopping and possibly the world’s most important wine centre. A new tram-line takes you into the city from the outskirts, avoiding the traffic! The Medoc - This wine country, which is perhaps the most famous in the world, invites you to visit its cellars (there are some 400 wine producers in this small area alone) and its beaches on the ocean. Archachon and Dune du Pyla - Archachon is a lovely beach resort and is also a very famous oyster growing region. The Dune du Pyla is Europes highest sand dune. You can climb the steps to the top, the views are spectacular.
Booking notes
Bookings can be made by phone or email. A 25% deposit is required to secure the booking. Final payment is due 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the booking. A £150 security deposit is payable on arrival. Please note: Both gites will not be available for bookings between 1st November 2011 and 31st March 2012 due to refurbishments taking place.

About the owner
Our names are Rae and Jean-Charles (JC for short) Adam, and we took over the business in early May 2011. We both lived in London - JC is French, he lived there for 27 years running restaurants, his last job before we left was for Conran's new venture The Boundary Restaurant and Hotel in Shoreditch (so he knows a lot about wine and hospitality)! I am English and lived in London for 23 years, I worked in media for Turner Broadcasting's kids channels and was a director of client services. We have 2 young children and know what we expect from a family holiday so we have tried to apply that to our properties, so you can pack less and relax more. If you don't have kids thats cool too, all that extra stuff is hidden!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We left London in order to combine our passions for food, hospitality, travel and generally living a slower life. This way we get to see our children grow up outside of breakfast time and bedtime and get an abundant of fresh air every day. We chose this area because of the fantastic climate and the fact that even though it is in the countryside, the beaches are only half an hour away and if we really need a city fix we have Bordeaux only 50 minutes drive away, not to mention the stunning vineyards and sunflower fields that are right on our doorstep. Everything is so easily accessible.
Unique benefits of the property
The property is within easy reach of the motorway (A10), Bordeaux airport (50 mins), La Rochelle (60 mins) and is situated within easy reach of pretty much everything you would want to do in this area. The coast is an easy drive (Meschers is only 40 minutes and has lovely calm bays for kids), Cognac is 45 minutes drive, Saintes 25 minutes not to mention plenty of other great places under an hours drive - we have it all. But if you choose to do nothing (which many do), you can relax by the pool on our new comfortable sunloungers, or stroll through out beautiful garden, pick the fruit from the trees, or sit in a hammock and read in peace. Or if you're feeling energetic have a bounce on the trampoline!
