We are situated in south west France in an area renowned for being one of the sunniest parts of the country. Set amidst rolling farmlands, which are ablaze with sunflowers in summer, Logis Sainte-Terre, which means Holy Ground, offers a haven of peace and tranquility. Our property is a typical 300 year old Charentaise Farmhouse which stands in the grounds of a Medieval Logis (fort). Remnants of the old walls can still be seen in the area today. Also on the site is a derelict Manor House with its 14th century chapel, original pigeonnier and restored bread oven. The village of Benest with its bar and restaurant and boulangerie is 2km away, while the larger village of Champagne Mouton (with its market) and providing everything you might need, is 5 kilometres away. Ideally situated for exploring the local treats of the area known as Poitou-Charente. La Rochelle, Royan, Futurescope (Poitiers), Cognac, Limoges etc. are all within very easy reach.

All prices quoted are in UK Pounds per week for short term lets. For long term lets or lower occupancy a price reduction is possible. Please contact us to discuss in more detail.
Bed and Breakfast is also available if you are just visiting us for a few days.

The gite accommodates 6 people but this can be increased to 8 by prior arrangement.
Changeover day
Changeover day is normaly Saturday but this can be changed to any day to suit yourself or if you want to take advantage of the cheaper flights.
| Bedrooms: | There are 2 lovely bedrooms both tastefully furnished and having beautiful views. The one on the top floor has a double bed and 2 single beds, while the lower ground floor bedroom has a double bed. |
| Bathrooms: | The bedroom on the top floor has an en-suite shower room, which contains wash hand basin, toilet and shower with power jets. The lower ground floor bedroom has an en-suite shower room with drying area, wash hand basin and toilet. |
| Kitchen: | The kitchen/dining area is fully equipped and includes a microwave, fridge, stove and a large range of crockery, pots, pans and glassware etc. |
| Utility Room: | There is a laundry room on site. |
| Living Rooms: | The lounge area includes a double bed settee, Sky TV, DVD player, CD player, books and games for your entertainment. You may wish to bring your own Sky card. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
All linen, including towels, is provided as is a welcome pack. The gite is cleaned and linen is changed weekly. |
Notes on accommodation
Oil heaters are provided when required in the cooler months.
Outside
The gite has its own garden area with furniture and BBQ, but guests must feel free to use all the different areas of the large garden and its many barns.
Guests are also invited to help themselves to home grown fruit and vegetables in season.
There are 4 quality bicycles available for your use.
Coast/Beach
Coast (2 hours) La Rochelle with its old harbour surrounded by stately buildings and numerous restaurants is now the largest yachting centre on the Atlantic coast. The villages of Royan, with its 5 beaches of fine sand and Rochefort are also worth a visit.
Golf
There are 5 golf courses all within easy reach of the gite. The superb Saint Junian 18 hole with its international hotel, swimming pool and driving range is 35 mins drive away. The beautiful Village Le Chat 27 hole golf course is also only 35 mins drive away whilst the famous Cognac golf course is within one hour. The courses at Niort and Poitier are approx 1 hour. There is also a beautifull picturesque 18 hole municipal course at Angouleme which is 45 mins drive away.
Travel
Flights: Ryanair fly into Poitiers (1 hour) and Limoges (50 mins) from Stansted, Liverpool and East Midlands.
Bmibaby fly into Limoges and Bordeaux (2 hours) from East Midlands and Manchester respectively.
Distances
Logis Sainte-Terre is 2 kilometres outside the village of Benest with its bar, restaurant and boulangerie. The larger village of Champagne Mouton is 8 kilometres away and has a supermarket, pharmacy, bars, restaurants and a market twice a week.
Further details
Walking – The unspoilt scenery with its abundance of flora and fauna is a pleasure to walk in and there are numerous well marked trails around the property.
Cycling – The quiet roads and lovely countryside are ideal for cycling and you can also stop and explore the many local picturesque villages with their attractions.
History – There are many historical buildings to visit including Chateaux, 10th century Churches (every village has a Church) and Abbeys (Abbaye du St Sauveur at Charroux, 10 minutes away is particularly interesting).
Futurescope – The unique virtual reality theme park offering fun for all the family is about 1hour away.
Poitiers (1 hour) a city rich with art and architecture including the impressive Church of Notre-Dame-la-Grande.
Limoges (1 hour) Famous for it’s porcelain.
Confolens (25 mins). A beautiful town set on the river Vienne and host to the famous international folklore festival in August
Angouleme (45 mins). The 12th century Cathedrale St-Pierre dominates this parapeted city with it’s pedestrian streets and multitude of shops and restaurants. It is also home to Nautilus Water Park with its man made beech, sailing, wind surfing etc.
La Vallee des Singes (30 mins) More than 250 monkeys living in total liberty.
Congac/Jarnac (1 hour) Beautiful towns on the Charante River and home to the cognac distilleries of Hennessey, Remy Martin etc.
