The picturesque village of L'Epine, (altitude 800m) is in the south-west corner of the department Hautes-Alpes in the Pays du Buech, near the border of the Drome Provencal. Being uniquely situated on the border between Provence and Dauphine, both the rugged and untamed landscapes of the Southern Alps and the lavender and sunflower fields of Provence are on your doorstep. The region also boasts 300 days sunshine a year! With a population of just 150, the village is small, peaceful and unspoilt. There is an 'auberge' where bread can be ordered, a post-office and visiting greengrocer and butcher. There are resident artists and honey producers. Ten minutes away by car, in the larger village of Serres, there is a good selection of shops for all your needs, as well as a weekly market selling local produce such as lavender honey, cheeses and marinated olives. Between L'Epine and Serres are 2 good restaurants.

Further details
If you want to stay close to home: The area around L'Epine abounds in stunning hiking trails through oaks, beeches, broom and juniper; sometimes taking you past forgotten 'perched' Provencal villages, where it appears time has stood still. There are hikes directly from our village, including the circular 'Sentier Botanique' and the ascent to the' Bonnet Rouge' (1645m) with breathtaking panoramic views. The GR91 and GR94 also pass nearby. The Pays du Buech is also renowned for its rock-climbing and hang-gliding with many small aerodromes offering a variety of flying activities. If you want a base for exploring the Southern Alps as well as Provence, L'Epine is ideally situated. To view a short video of the area please see 'Owner's Website' below.
