Our apartment is within a new development called The Village de Lessy, in the heart of the charming village of Chinaillon, close to Le Grand Bornand, in the Haute Savoie. The apartment is finished to a very high standard. The Office de Tourisme is across the road (with a Wi-Fi connection); behind which is the lift taking you down to the ski lifts and school. This area has a reputation for excellent snow conditions with night skiing available if you can't bear to stop! In summer there are fantastic walking and cycling paths. For the more adventurous there is climbing and paragliding. The Tour de France frequently passes through the village (it was a stage stop in 2009) and there is the annual children's festival in August. We are just 30 minutes from the French motorway system and less than an hour from Geneva airport. Switzerland and Italy are day trips away in the summer. Our apartment is comfortable and convenient with the most spectacular panoramic views you could ever imagine.

Payments can be made in Pounds or Euros. £50 reduction for two weeks booked together. We can be flexible if the apartment isn't rented out, so please contact us with your requirements.
Changeover day
Sunday. You may arrive anytime after 4pm and must vacate the apartment by 10am.

Notes on accommodation
Apartment is heated by super-efficient electric heaters. Smoking and pets are not permitted in the apartment.
Outside
Our large double aspect balcony has uninterrupted views up and down the valley as well as the ski slopes, including the night skiing area - perfect if you just want to relax and take in the atmosphere. Outside lighting.
Coast/Beach
In summer, Le Grand Bornand has a large outdoor swimming complex with slides and a safe toddler area. There are a number of lakeside beaches on the shore of Lake Annecy with freshwater swimming, sunbathing and water sports available.
Golf
A super 9 hole course is available in the Vallee of Buchet at the Grand Bornand Golf Club. Crazy golf is available in the village and in Grand Bornand.
Skiing
Our apartment is less than 200 paces from the nearest ski lifts and ski school, with many ski hire shops. There is skiing to suit all abilities, including some good off-piste skiing areas. Families of all ages are well catered for and there's a large Snowpark, which our teenage son loves. The 'Aravis' ski-pass covers 220km of pistes and includes ski-bus transfers to nearby La Clusaz, the bus stop is right outside our chalet block. If your particular love is Nordic Skiing, there are 60km of varied and well-kept circuits.
Special interest holidays
Climbing is a serious sport in this area of The Alps with many local climbing spots and Chamonix, with the intimidating Mt Blanc, is only 70 minutes away. Mountian biking (uphill and downhill) is also popular in this area with the Tour de France frequently passing through the village (Stage 7 ended and Stage 8 started in Grand Bornand in 2007 - the locals were very excited about this). Le Grand Bornand is also a centre of excellence for paragliding. Have a go, or better still, take a picnic and watch the foolhardy launch themselves into thin air!
Travel
Geneva Airport is less than an hour's drive and you have a choice of carriers from many UK airports. Car hire is cheaply available and the route is fairly simple. The drive from Calais is just over 500 miles. We normally do it in a day or take a stopover in the beautiful medieval town of Troyes.

Further details
The main village supermarket is at the foot of Le Village de Lessy (it takes 3 minutes to get there). Chinaillon has an abundance of shops and restaurants to suit everyone (there is a spectacular traditional restaurant on the slopes - with steps up from the village - very exciting). Visit the wonderful local market in Grand Bornand on a Wednesday morning which is very popular with the local community. Grand Bornand is the home of the delicious Reblochon cheese, a key ingredient in the local speciality, Tartiflette. The regional capital, Annecy, with its medieval heart is well worth a visit.
Booking notes
A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking. The final balance is due 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. We also require a £200 security deposit, which will be returned on safe return of keys, provided the apartment has been left clean and without damage. All payment by cheque.

About the owner
Hi, I'm a 40 something dad, (well nearly 50) happily married with two teenagers, slightly passed his prime in athletic ability. I spend most of my business life sitting down in offices or travelling to customers by car or train, and so when we go on holiday, we like to be physically active during the day doing whatever catches our fancy - skiing, walking, golf. This allows me to pretend that I'm not over the hill yet! In the evening we enjoy spending the time relaxing with family and friends eating good food and drinking good wine - sometimes cooking myself, sometimes out and about.
We're always ready for fun - as long as we can return to our home comforts in the evening!

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
The apartment is a relatively new build (2006) in the Village de Lessy (VdL) complex right in the heart of the village of Chinaillon. A few years ago the village council decided they wanted to ensure that any tourist development had to be in the existing Haute-Savoie style. Fortunately, the village escaped the 70s brutal concrete buildings so common in other French resorts. So they built VdL by blowing up a section of the mountain in the heart of the village - it took 3 years to complete. Our part if the VdL are the private apartments, the rest is rented out by Pierre et Vacances. The building and apartment is kitted out to a very high standard with real wood everywhere.
Unique benefits of the property
We discovered Chinaillon several years ago, and after visiting over several seasons, we chose to buy our apartment in this location because it was a new property (no gapy windows), built to a high standard (all the utilities work), and most importantly, because everything is walkable, with the slopes only yards away. In winter we meander to the slopes in about 4/5 minutes, and in summer we can walk straight up the mountains. In the evenings, the village is literally right below us, with all the shops, restaurants and bars and then we stumble home afterwards. In the Summer, the closeness of Annecy (30 mins) gives us access to a fantastic medieval town and fantastic lake trips. We love it here all year round - and we hope you will to.
