Our comfortable detached cottage is perfect for a relaxing, countryside holiday in summer or winter. We have an outdoor pool for the summer and central heating for the winter months. We are in a quiet rural location with excellent views over open country. The house is sited within a 3.5 acre plot with over 1 acre dedicated to the gite. Whilst we are 5 minutes drive from the local shops we are just a few minutes from the main highways with easy access to Laval and Le Mans which are just half an hour away. There are many excellent local restaurants, Debra and David will be happy to give you directions to these and all the local attractions upon your arrival. The garden, pool, childrens play area, summer house, patio and BBQ are for the exclusive use of our guests. If booking for Christmas a free bottle of champagne is included in your welcome pack.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. There is a charge for electricty which is metered and payable at the end of your stay. We offer a discount off the total rental amount (excluding linen costs) for booking 3 + weeks. Periods of rental over 4 weeks can be subject to negotiation.
Part weeks also considered or weekend breaks. Please refer to full terms and conditions.

Changeover day
Saturday arrival (other days by arrangement). Arrival time is 4pm (unless otherwise agreed) and departure time is 10am (unless otherwise agreed).

Bedrooms: Bedroom 1 with double bed.
Bedroom 2 with double bed and single bunk above. Cot can also fit in this room.
Double sofabed in lounge - possible addition of 1 extra single bed in lounge area.
Hairdryers are in both bedrooms.
Bathrooms: Large shower room with hand basin, toilet and heated towel rail. Extractor fan.
Kitchen: Gas cooker plus extractor fan, fridge with small freezer compartment, microwave. Washing and drying of clothes can be arranged, iron and ironing board available. Kitchen contains all crockery, knives, forks etc for a minimum of 6 people.
Living Rooms: Large open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area there is a flat screen TV showing free to view UK channels, around sound DVD & CD player (selection of DVD's and CD's available) and a massage chair. The 4'6' wide sofa bed is in the lounge.
Other: We can provide cover for storage of bikes (including motorbikes) etc.

Bed Linen and towels can be provided for an extra charge of £9 per person (this covers up to a 2 week stay, change of all linen available).

Notes on accommodation
The cottage is beautiful with a really homely feeling, however we do feel we should point out that it was built in 1535 and it has many very large, very old beams, a couple of the ceiling beams in the lounge are quite low so, depending on your height you may need to duck. Dogs are welcome by appointment, please call to discuss.
We do not allow smoking in the cottage.
Additional charge may apply for central heating if required in summer months (May - Sept).

Accessibility
The property is on one level (no stairs). The doors are suitable for a standard width wheelchair.

Outside
The secure wide open garden that goes with the gite has a paved patio area with wooden patio furniture, a charcoal BBQ is provided. A summer house - providing shade from the sun and a cosy environment for summer evenings (or somewhere for smokers if it rains) this is a totally private area for the exclusive use of our guests. The pool is an above ground pool, 5.5m across, there is a security ladder (so that the pool can be kept safe for children), plenty of toys for use in the water and the pool area is fenced. There is ample car parking for at least 2 cars, a very short distance from the cottage. The gite is within a 3.5 acre garden which is completely fenced. We have a children's play area which includes swings, hammock, swing ball, tyre swing, platform with a slide and has a childs den underneath containing a toy box etc. There is plenty to keep the kids (and adults!) occupied without having to leave the very secure garden.

1.5 Hours from the coast by car.

Golf
Golf course at Laval (half an hour away), Sable Sur Sarthe (20 min) and Le Mans. Swing golf is available near Brulon which is 10 mins drive away.

Travel
1.5 hours from Tours airport.
1.5 hours from Rennes airport.
4 Hours from the port of Bologne.
4.5 hours from the port of Calais.
2.5 hours from the port of Caen.
1.5 Hours from Dinard or St Malo.
2 hours from Paris by Train.
Car hire (or use of car) essential.

Distances
The nearest village is St Denis D'Orques for bread, delicatessen, petrol station, hairdresser and 2 restaurants, this is just a 5 minute drive from the house. We are just half an hour from Le Mans and Laval, 20 minutes from the market towns of Sable or Evron. All of these towns have excellent supermarkets, restaurants etc, we are happy to advise the days of the local produce markets. A full range of tourist information is available in the gite.

Further details
You are ideally situated to explore the Mayenne or the Sarthe regions. Le Mans is just half an hour away, it is famous for the 24 hour racing, however there are events at the track from April to October, as well as an excellent motor museum. Also you should visit the cathederal and old town as these are exceptional. There is so much to see and do in this region, there is tourist information available in the cottage but a must would include: A visit to the caves and canyons at Saulges, this is literally 5 minutes away and is an amazing place. The caves of ‘Margot’ and ‘Rochefort’ were inhabited from the Paleolithic era, tours of the caves are available from April to November. There is also the beautiful shrine to Saint Cenere at Saulge, found in a very relaxing park with sports and swimming available in the summer months, with a creperie on site serving great food and drink. Saint Suzanne is also 5 minutes from the house, this is a petite town of character with a chateau and fortress.
There is a magnificent chateau at Mezangers, the grounds are well worth a visit and a very excellent water park just outside the same village. Or you may be interested in the ancient Roman town of Jublains, with its fortress, hot baths, temple and theatre. There are many Brocantes, bric-a-brac markets and collectors fairs (full details are available). There are many churches, abbeys, parks and gardens to visit or many forest circuits to walk or cycle. You could play golf, or hire a boat in Sable to cruise the Maine or Anjou rivers. The town of Durtal is on the river Loire & has a spectacular chateau, the Anjou vineyards can be found just 4km outside of Durtal. The air is very clean in this region and as such the clear night skies offer the most excellent star gazing. We can arrange to post you information on the local area after you have confirmed your booking or let us know what interrests you and we can research this before you arrive.

Booking notes
20% deposit (non-refundable) to be paid when booking and balance to be paid in full 6 weeks before holiday date. Cheques in sterling to be made out to D Worboys. A £100 dilapidation deposit (a requirement of our insurers) will be required to cover potential breakages or cleaning costs, to be paid with the balance. This will be returned after a full inspection of the property.

About the owner
Debra and David Worboys and their two Westies (Lilly and Bela) are happy to welcome you to their home - La Bonne Marie. David is officially retired - although he says he has never worked so hard and I (Debra) run the gite and look after a couple of other properties for friends in the area. The dogs are busy all the time (digging holes in the garden) and when they are not they are sleeping (re-charging the batteries). Life here is good.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought our house for many reasons but I guess the most important was the location. It is just 4.5 hours drive from Calais, 2.5 hours from Caen and has airports at Dinard, Rennes and Tours. Whilst the house is in a quiet rural location we have easy access to local towns and are approximately half an hour from 2 major cities - Laval and Le Mans. There is just so much to see and do around here - visitors that come for 1 week wish they had booked for 2.

Unique benefits of the property
We have been told by many of our guests that the photographs we have on the web site just can not do the place justice. They are impressed with the amount of space that is dedicated to the gite - an acre of garden - the very private pool, patio area, BBQ etc. We have tried hard to make this a home from home and from the amount of return visitors we get we seem to have things about right. However we are always open to suggestions and improvements.
