Stone House in Peaceful Mountain Location
Sleeps 8 (3 bedrooms)
|
|
Stone house, dated 1804, perched on the mountainside in the Montagne Noire, which lies to the north of the medieval city of Carcassonne. A large south-facing terrace overlooks the tiny peaceful hamlet of Lafargue and provides stunning views of the mainly wooded surrounding hills. A swimming lake with plage, play area and creperie is close by. The house comprises three double bedrooms, a living room with a large open fireplace, kitchen, utility room and two bathrooms. A small river runs through the hamlet, and in the autumn chestnuts and walnuts can be scooped up by the handful.

Special interest holidays
The region is ideal for walkers and nature lovers. There are miles of well waymarked footpaths and the woods are full of deer and wild boar. A pair of circling buzzards can often be seen from the terrace. The Goufre Geant de Cabrepine, just down the road, is said the be the largest cave in Europe, big enough to hold the Eiffel Tower.
There are festivals - music and food - in the nearby villages. Classical music, dance, drama and pop are to be heard and seen in Carcassonne, Caunes-Minervois and Minerve.
The region is dotted with the ruined castles of the Cathars and the routes to them run through the Minervois and Corbieres wine districts where every few hundred metres along the roads different chateax offer tastings.
