Vaux Lavalette is situated 30km south of Angouleme, between the historic towns of Villebois – Lavalette and Aubeterre. Our property at Chez Lombard consists of three restored cottages, 2 of which are to let, individually or together. It is a great place for a holiday for a couple, or for a group of any size up to 14. It lies among vineyards and fields of sunflowers with lovely views of the Charente countryside. It is an ideal place for relaxing by the pool or, for the more energetic, walking or cycling on the quiet country roads. If you feel like venturing beyond Chez Lombard there are safe river beaches and lakes for canoeing and swimming within half an hour’s drive and the Atlantic beaches are about 2 hours drive. There is a nine-hole golf course, moto-cross and horse riding at a similar distance. We can arrange access to tennis courts in Villebois –Lavalette, a 10 minute drive. Each of these towns has a bank, post office, supermarkets and other shops.

We are happy to take mid-week bookings or consider longer discounted lets out of high season. Flights are now available from Stansted to Angouleme.
Changeover day
Bookings during July and August are normally taken from Saturday to Saturday; at other times by arrangement.

Downstairs main bedroom with large double bed, French doors to terrace and en-suite shower room. Living area: Well-equipped kitchen with cooker, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine. Large table seats 10, two sofas, DVD and video player. French doors lead to terrace with tables, chairs, parasols. Main bathroom with bath/shower. Stairs to double bedroom, twin bedroom and large room with 4 single beds. – Ideal for children. |

Notes on accommodation
There is a communicating door between the 2 cottages so that they can be used as one, sleeping up to 14 people. Each cottage has a wood-burning stove. Both places are suitable for children; there is a child's cot available and a highchair. The salt maintained pool is fully fenced. There are safe areas to play.
Accessibility
Both cottages are suitable for people with mobility problems. The larger cottage and gardens are suitable for wheelchair users. There are bedrooms, living areas and bathrooms on the ground floor in both places.
Outside
Designated shared BBQ area as well as separate BBQ equipment for each cottage. Tables and chairs for outdoor use. Our salt-maintained pool (kinder to the skin) measures 10x5m meets European standards. Constant depth of 1.35m: large enough for adults to swim and for small children to have fun with inflatables. The area around the pool is accessible by wheelchair. There is a swing and lots of space for kids to play and enjoy themselves safely. We have an activities room with table tennis and other games and a collection of more than 10 bikes of mixed ages. The surrounding tracks and lanes are safe from traffic.
Coast/Beach
River beaches Aubeterre, St Aulaye and La Jemaye within half an hour’s drive. Coastal safe swimming beaches (e.g. Royan) approx 1½ hour’s drive. Surfing beaches (e.g. Lacanau) 2 hour's drive. Isle d’Oleron is a 2 1/2 hour drive. Nautiluus centre at Angouleme has water sports and leisure swimming pool.
Golf
There is a 9 hole golf course 10 mins drive away near Aubeterre and 18 hole golf courses at Angouleme, 1/2 hr and Cognac, 1hr away. Fun golf - 15 minutes drive.
Travel
Nearest airports are: Angouleme 40 minutes),Poitiers, Bergerac, Limoges, Bordeaux all about 1½ hour’s drive. Ferry ports: Boulogne 8 hours drive, Calais 8½ hours, Dieppe, Cherbourg, Caen, 6½ hours. Train – TGV- Waterloo – Angouleme 6½ hours.
Distances
Nearest village with shops, bars, restaurants and supermarket is Villebois Lavalette, about 10km. Pretty market villages of Chalais, Riberac, Aubeterre and Brantome are within 30km. The nearest town, Angouleme is 30km. Cognac is 50km. St. Emilion 75km.
Further details
Good local restaurants within easy reach. Many places of interest to visit – chateaux, caves, vineyards, St. Emilion, Cognac distilleries, monolithic church (Aubeterre), museums, Roman relics. Supermarket, bank, shops, restaurants at Momtmoreau (10 minutes drive), Villebois-Lavalette (15 minutes drive).
Booking notes
We would consider discounts for longer lets. Electricity, gas and water are inclusive. Bedding and bed-linen and towels provided each week (not poolside towels). Booking forms will be sent out to clients. A deposit of 20% of total rental is required on booking. Balance of rental to be paid 2 months before holiday. Returnable breakage / damage deposit of £200 per cottage to be paid with rental balance.
