Built in the early 1800’s. Les Coindries is a traditional French farmstead built around a large courtyard and typical of the region. The stone buildings with their tiled roofs are set in private gardens accessed by a quiet lane and are surrounded by rolling arable land with lovely walks and cycle tracks nearby. The buildings have been carefully restored and converted to include the original oak beams and open fireplaces, plus a swimming pool and Jacuzzi. This area is perhaps the most characteristically French of all the regions with its chateaux, rolling vineyards and meandering rivers. The stunning abbey at Fontevraud is only a pleasant 30 minutes drive away. For more up-to-date entertainment, ‘Futuroscope’ is about 25km away. Les Coindries can be found 11km south of Richelieu. famous for it’s Cardinal of the same name and a further 15 minutes drive takes you to the lovely town of Chinon. Tours is about 1 hr away to the north, with Poitiers 35 minutes to the south.

Changeover is normally on a Saturday but we can be flexible whenever possible.
Departure time is 10am and arrival time is after 3pm.

La Maison Campagnarde has a large country farmhouse kitchen with a stainless range cooker, dishwasher, large larder fridge and freezer.
The living room has wonderful oak beams and a large open fireplace, and there are 4 double bedrooms, 2 with king-size beds, one double with ensuite and lounge and mezzanine bedroom, one with twin beds, plus a single pullout chair/bed.
The house has 3 bathrooms, 2 with baths and showers and one ensuite shower-room.
There is easy access to a spacious private garden and BBQ, large courtyard grounds, swimming pool (11x8 metres) and jacuzzi.

Le Petit Coin has a large living room with wood burning stove and pullout couch, fully equipped dining/kitchen with oven, microwave and large fridge/freezer, bathroom with double shower and 2 bedrooms, one downstairs opens onto a private terrace and has a double bed, and the upstairs one with twin beds. (accessed by steep stairs and a low door therefore not suitable for the elderly or very young) It has it’s own private garden area with BBQ as well as a covered patio looking onto the courtyard with large garden/dining table and chairs.

Adapted from the old wine press this apartment features a living room with double sofa bed and an open plan kitchen, a shower room and toilet, and on a mezzanine, there is an airy double bedroom with twin beds and fitted wardrobe. There is a small terrace to the front with barbeque.

Formally the cow shed, this conversion has been developed into a large open plan living area on three levels. There is a twin bedded area on a mezzanine, below which is a ground level living room with double sofa bed. The intermediate level features the fully fitted kitchen, the original well which is now a feature and a bathroom with a large shower. A front terrace with barbeque overlooks the gardens and courtyard.

 

Notes on accommodation
In the main courtyard is an eating area within a shaded gazebo where meals and drinks can be taken. For off season and winter lettings all the properties are electrically heated with La Maison Campagnarde having a large open fire in the living room and a wood burning stove in the kitchen. Le Petit Coin also feature a wood burning stove with logs provided by the owners.

Accessibility
La Maison Campagnarde has a 1 bedroomed ground-floor annex with a lounge, bedroom and bathroom being accessed directlyfrom the courtyard. This appartment is suitable for those who may have difficulty with stairs.

Outside
Les Coindries has a large (11m x 5m) heated swimming pool surrounded by a substantial paved sun terrace with solar shower and sun-loungers, tables and chairs. In addition there is a day room with drinks fridge and pool accessories. The pool is walled off from the private gardens within which is a separate area featuring the Jacuzzi.

Coast/Beach
Nearest seaside resort is La Rochelle about 2 hours away. The beaches on Ile de Re are beautiful and it is a well-sought-after resort for the French in summer.

Travel
Poitiers airport is 45 mins away with Tours airport being about an hour. Limoges and Nantes are 2 hours. Use of a car is recommended in this area.

Distances
The nearest village is 10 minutes walk (3 mins by car) with a boulangerie, epicerie and bar/restaurant. Richelieu is 7 mins by car and the charming town of Chinon is a leisurely 30 minutes drive through rolling hills and vineyards. The famous Fontevraud Abbey and Futuroscope are 30km away, and many wonderful chateaux are within a radius of 15 km.

Further details
Richelieu our local town, is a wonderful example of an unspoilt and largely original medieval walled city of great charm and character. The main square recently redeveloped and restored to its original 15th century style, features cafes, bars and shops. Banks and restaurants are down the little streets which lead to hidden properties straight from the days of the Cardinal who founded his domain and built the city in the early 1600’s.
The whole area is a haven and an antidote from the stresses of modern life, with few cars and many little roads to explore it is a cyclists and walkers paradise. There are many beautiful types of woodland with defined paths and easy access and a few minutes away is a splendid nature trail build on the former railway which ran from Chatellerault to Loudon.

Guest comments
A warm welcome accompanied by a delightful gite gave us the first impression that Les Coindries was going to be relaxing yet fun, with the pool and garden area, and easy access to the entertaining towns of Chinon and Richelieu. The Monday night BBQ’s and the friendly residents, as well as the amazing Nigel and Wendy got us thinking that this was one of the best holidays we’ve ever had!

Excellent hosts – a little bit of heaven. Highly recommended

In April, we sat in front of the computer to book our much needed family holiday. We stumbled across the website for ‘ooh-la-loire’ and the moment we read about Bevington the goat, Mrs Chicken, Moses and the ‘Monday night get-together BBQ with Nigel on guitar – we were pretty sure this was going to be the holiday for us! How right we were!!
