The house sits on the edge of a beautiful medieval village south of Fontainebleau. Perched on a rocky spur, Chateau-Landon was for hundreds of years at the crossroads of military, commercial and religious routes. The property has a quiet location with partly walled garden front and back, back terrace with views across a small valley -perfect for eating outside. Living accommodation on ground floor with games room in basement leading directly onto back garden. Ideal property for couples or families with children offering good security with secure gated parking within the property. Croissants at any of the three boulangeries or home-made food at the traiteur are a stone's throw away-as are local restaurants. An excellent base for exploring Paris, Fontainebleau, Barbizon, the Loire Valley, chateaux, vineyards (Sancerre, Chablis..) and also a charming spot for walking, cycling (bikes at the house) or just enjoying French rural life.

Guest comments
What a splendid gite! It was really refreshing to find a gite furnished in true French style, and with a really good supply of kitchen equipment; no Ikea to be seen. Claude, we assume that much of the furnishings were your parents; what a lovely couple they must have been to make such a welcoming home.

We had a wonderful two weeks in your house - very relaxing. We spent a lot of time watching the world go by from the bar aux remparts. We greatly appreciated the bikes - it's a fine area for cycling - particularily enjoying the circle to Souppes then back along the canal. We visited Delius' house at Grez, Provins, Barbizon, Vaux-le-Vicomte, shopped in Montargis, went to Paris for the day, and to Versailles when the fountains were on. Otherwise enjoyed wonderful fruit, coffee, kir mūre and wines. Bought back lots of ridiculously cheap Gigondas bought round the corner in Casino (the man asked where we were staying and said he knew you). The games room is a real plus too.

Owner profile

Jenny & Claude Harry

About the owner
I am French, but fell in love with England, and my English wife, 35 years ago. When my mother died in 2004, neither of us could bear to part with her house in the village in France that Jenny had grown to love as much as I did. The house was a peaceful oasis, a refuge from city life, but with enough happening in the village for us not to feel isolated. We are so pleased that our guests seem to enjoy it as much as we do.
