A tastefully refurbished barn with exposed beams and contemporary airy interior. Set in beautiful countryside ‘Le Petit Columbage’ has an open plan kitchen/living area with double French windows leading to an upstairs terrace, which overlooks the valley and extensive gardens with its 10x5m swimming pool (sliding cover kept water 26 -30'C last summer). Neighbours the owner’s farmhouse on the edge of the picturesque hamlet of Tourtouse - famous for its 13th century donjon, beautiful old church and traditional restaurant/bar (delicious menu). The local village of Ste Croix Volvestre boasts a swimming/fishing lake with beach, tennis courts and large lawned play area. The region is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, panoramic views of the Pyrenees and tranquillity. Local activities include walking, cycling, horse riding, climbing, canoeing & skiing. Shopping and bustling markets in St Girons or Cazeres (20 mins). Toulouse (1 hr). Carcasonne, Andorra and the Med (2 hrs).

Notes on prices
Prices shown are for the property per week in UK Pounds.
10% reduction for a second week. Bedlinen, towels (pool towels included) and weekly cleaning are included in the price. A 20% deposit is required at the time of booking with the remainder payable 8 weeks before occupancy both can be paid in the UK. A breakages and extra cleaning deposit of €200 euros is payable on arrival.
Changeover day
Saturday is the usual changover day during medium and high season. Guests are requested not to arrive before 3pm and to leave by 10am. Changover days and times during other periods can be arranged with the owners.

| Other: | Storage room (off 1st floor terrace next to kitchen area) contains space for storing patio furniture and guests belongings eg. ski equipment. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Cotton bed linen and towels are included but guests are asked to bring their own towels for the swimming pool. The gite is cleaned on changeover day. For guests staying for more than a week cleaning will be carried out weekly. |
Notes on accommodation
All rooms have wall mounted electric heaters and heated towel rails in the bathroom and shower room. The main living room also has a log burning stove. Fans are provided for hot weather although they are not usually needed as the walls of this more than 200 year old barn are mostly built of local stone which keeps the gite cool in summer and warm in the winter.
A cot and highchair are available on request.
Smoking is not allowed inside the gite.

Accessibility
The gite is accessed along gravel & concrete paths which are about 15m from the parking area. There are 3 steps up to the ground floor terrace where there is access through double french windows to the ground floor bedrooms, bathroom and shower room. The main entrance to the gite is up the outside staircase and through French doors on the upstairs terrace. There is also an internal staircase connecting the ground floor and the first floor. The gite is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Outside
The gite has its own large private, not-overlooked, terraces (1st floor and ground floor) with outdoor dining furniture and barbeque plus sunbeds. There is an outside staircase leading down from the 1st floor terrace to the ground floor terrace. The ground floor terrace leads to large lawned gardens containing mature trees and a 11m x 5m swimming pool with roman steps into the shallow end - ideal for children. The pool has a salt water chlorination system and a slide over cover which allows swimming underneath on cooler days. The cover keeps the water warm throughout the season (26-30'C May to mid Sept) The pool is shared with the friendly english speaking owners who live next door and who are happy to give advice, if needed, about days out etc. There is parking provided for 2 cars.
Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean coast (Narbonne) is approximately 2 hours drive and makes a lovely day out for a change of scenary from the woodlands and mountainous scenery of the Ariege.
Golf
There is a golf course at Le Bastide de Serou, approximately 30 minutes drive away from the gite.
Skiing
Skiing at Guzet Neige is approximately 45 minutes drive. Guzet is a family resort with a good mix of green, blue, red and black pistes (31).
The on-site owners ski at the resort and would also be happy to provide further information. Andorra is approx 2 hours away and is easily accessible for a days skiing or for an overnight stay.

Travel
Blagnac Airport in Toulouse is the nearest international airport (approx. 1 hours drive). Carcasonne Airport is just under 2 hours drive. The area is rural and a car is essential for getting around.
Distances
The nearest village shop is at Fabas (3kms). The larger village of St Croix Volvestre (7km) has a range of small traditional shops, bank, restaurant/bar and a tourist information office. St Croix Volvestre also has a swimming/fishing lake with beach, boules and tennis courts. St Girons (16km) and Cazeres (17km) are the nearest large towns with supermarkets, shops, traditional markets, banks etc. Foix is the capital town of the region and is an hour's drive away.
Further details
There is a table tennis table and badminton and tennis equipment available. Although the area is renowned for its peace and tranquility the local villages and towns host many festivals and events throughout the year including fetes, open air historical re-enactments (Cathare and Roman history) and amazing firework displays. The Tour de France passes close by and is an enjoyable occasion for enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike. The prehistoric caves of Mas d'Azil & Niaux are 30 minutes to an hour's drive away.
The Western Ariege is one of the most under-developed and unspoilt areas of France and remains covered in large tracts of woodland and wilderness areas. This leads to the common sighting of wildlife of all types including deer, wild boar and large numbers of birds of prey.
