A comment from a 2006 guest
...thanks for providing the best property we have stayed in, in France. It was ideal for my wheelchair-bound husband...

Travel
Bordeaux (Merignac) International Airport is approx 1 hour 15 mins away, whilst Bergerac, serviced by some of the low cost operators, is about 45 mins away.
If you are flying, we would strongly recommend the collection of a hire car at the airport.
Approximate times to channel ports:
Le Havre - 6.5 hours.
St. Malo - 5.5 hours.
Caen - 6 hours.
Calais - 12 hours.
Distances
We are roughly equidistant from three larger towns, St Foy-la-Grande, Castillion-la-Battaille and Montpon-Menesterol (all about 11 km away) offering banks, restaurants, shops and markets.
St Emillion is 35 mins away - well worth a visit!
Further details
St. Foy-Le-Grande:
This is a fortified French Bastide town on the Dordogne river. The Saturday market and small shops, ideal for browsing.
A superb firework display over the river marks 14 July.
Castillon-La-Bataille:
This is a typical French commercial market town and a fortified English Bastide along the same river. July/August are the months to catch the re-enactment of the final battle of 1493 between the English and French (a spectacle not to be missed, approximately 15 minutes by car).
Bergerac:
Wine lovers flock to this legendary hometown of Cyrano de Bergerac where you will find not only the best wines but also fine examples of medieval architecture. The area includes the 'Maison du Vin'; the centre of this famous wine producing region; also notable home to Pate de Fois Gras and truffles. A spectacular selection of regional produce, fine shops and gourmet restaurants (approximately 30 minutes by car).
Bordeaux
You should not leave the area without seeing the principal city of southwest France. Comparable to Paris in amenities and sightseeing, Bordeaux offers major shopping facilities, theatres, art galleries and museums, without the size and chaos of the capital.
St. Emilion:
Another fine example of English Bastide with its monolithic church situated on the face of an escarpment overlooking the Dordogne valley. This is a town not to be missed - a great chance to search for wines and to tour local chateaux which offer samples of their produce.
Exploring further afield can take you as far south as the Pyrenees mountains separating France and Spain. Within 3-4 hours you can drive to the coastal resorts of Biarritz, San Jean de Luz and the mountain town of San Sebastian in Spain. Don't miss other great attractions such as the town of Cognac, the most famous oysters of Arcachon and the healing city of Lourdes.
